    Dear Friend

First of all I would appreciate you as your goal for the future is set and you want to become IAS officer in future.

It is not that you should start preparing for the exam right from class eight ,people say because day by day UPSC is more concentrating and emphasing on the knowledge of general studies and we know that there is no class to study general studies as its boundaries are undefined.

But you are not so late as you have taken a right initiative from the first year of engineering.Friend the basic requirement for the IAS that is for the civil services examinations is bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university .So you have four years to prepare for the exam.

Try to make a habit of reading newspapers so that you can gain command over general studies day by day ,listen to standard news channels, read monthly magazines like competition success review ,pratiyogta darpan etc.

Make a proper routine and work according to it .Try to give at least 3 hours right from now on your preparation for the Civil services.

If you find yourself unable to prepare for the civil services by self study ,then do not hesitate in taking coaching for it .You may join some of the reputed institutes like :

    1.Rau's IAS academy

    2.Eten IAS academy

    3.Khan study Group

    4.Vajiram and Ravi IAS academy.

The age limit for the exam is 21-30 years and relaxation in upper age limit is applicable to the obc and sc/st respectively.

The no of attempts are four for general candidates ,seven for obc and no limit for the sc/st candidates .

You must be an Indian citizen.

The examination has three stages which are :

    1.Civil services aptitude test

    2.Main examination

    3.Personal interview.

If you want any more clarifications or suggestions regarding it ,you may leave your message here. For more details regarding exam please visit www.upsc.gov.in.

    Hope the information helps you.

    all the best

Re: Basic requirements to become an IAS officer? When should I start working on it? Is it necessary to start preparations from 8th standard onwards?

    Hai Dear,

Firstly let us see the required eligibility conditions to become IAS Officer.

One should have a valid degree from recognized University and the candidate should attain 21 years and must not attain 30 years of age for general category candidates.

There is Upper age relaxation as follows for reserved category candidates.

The minimum age is 21 years and maximum is 33 years for OBC Category.

The minimum age is 21 years and maximum is 35 years for SC/ST Category.

To become IAS Officer, one has to give the Civil Services exam.

Exam Pattern for Civil services exam is as follows:

    Preliminary exam

    Mains

    Interview

When should anyone start their preparations for the exam???

Its better to start the preparations for the exam at their graduation level.

As you are doing your Engineering now, you can join good coaching center in parallel to your academics.

By the time you complete your graduation also and attain good knowledge on the exams.

You can apply at that time, by the time you give the exam, there may be changes in the exam pattern, you have to be updated with the current happenings about the exam and prepare then surely you can get through the exam.

Of course getting through the IAS Exam is bit tough, but if you really work hard then you can easily get through it.

As there is saying that " The roots of education are bitter but the fruit is sweet".

At first preparing for the exam may be hard and tedious. But at last when you the see the result, you will realize that your hard work pays off.

So, you are not at all late, you can start your preparations from now on wards.

Having an idea right from 8th class towards these exams is really appreciable, but you need not worry that you haven't started your preparations from then on wards, you can start now.

As the exam is tough, there is also restriction on the number of attempts given for the exam.

4 attempts for general, 7 attempts for OBC, no restriction for SC/ST.

Wishing you all the very best for your bright future.

    Hi
The most basic requirement or the eligibility of becoming an IAS officer is that you should be a graduate in any stream from a recognized indain university and your age should be in between 21-30 years.
And it is just the myth that you need to prepare right from the 8th standard if you want to become IAS, nothing is of that sort. You just need 2 years of intense and devoted dedication towards your goal in order to become the IAS officer
