Re: Can a commerce student appear in UPSC IAS exams?

Yes Obviously A Commerce student can appear for UPSC IAS exams.

See If you say correctly its not IAS exam rather its the Civil Services exam for which you have to appear for getting into IAS.

The exam is conducted by UPSC.

Its the common exam for all the three services i.e, IAS, IPS, IFS.

And for this exam you just need a Graduation Degree either 3 yrs if you are pursuing a normal graduation degree or 4,5 yrs if you are pursuing some Professional course.

And no specific stream required, any Science, Commerce or arts etc students can apply for the exam.

Also If you do not get good marks in your exam, its not a matter of worry, if you are passed then it will do.

The syllabus of Civil services exam is such that no specific knowledge subject is needed for the exam.

So its not mandatory to have a particular subject in your 10+2 or graduation.

You should have a look on the number of attempts :-

    General- 4 attempts

    OBC- 7 attempts

    SC/ST- unlimited no .of attempts

Here below are the age limits:-

    General- 21 to 30 yrs

    OBC- 21 to 33 yrs

    SC/ST- 21 to 35 yrs

    PH- 21 to 40 yrs

For more information you can visit the official website of UPSC.
