Yes definitely you can apply for both examination at a time.
It is perfectly your choice whether you wanna give multiple exams or not.
Since both are conducted by UPSC than both the exams date will be different.
So you can give the exam without any problem.
But than you will have to do double hard work in order to excel in both the examination.
Both the examinations are one of the toughest ones in our country.
So you need to give 200% to prepare for both the exams.
If you can manage to prepare for both the exams than you can go ahead.
Most candidates decides to give only 1 exam at a time.
So they can concentrate fully on that exam only and can prepare a lot better so as to get higher marks.
If you are not capable of doing that much of study than I will advise you to give only 1 exam at a time rather not preparing fully for both examination due to so much of study to be covered and end up being getting less marks in both the examination.

    Hope it helps you out.

    All the best.

    Regards.

    Dear Friend,

Yes absolutely you can give bothe the IAS & IES Exams in the same year.

    * The Union Public Service Commission Conducts both these examinations every year , that`s why they are conducted on varying dates.

So , If you wish to appear in both the exams then you can do so if you fulfill the required eligibility criteria for these exams.

But my dear friend , i just want to tell you one thing that very few students opt to give both these examinations in the same year .

This is because both the exams are ranked amongst the toughest exams which are conducted by the UPSC and it proves so hard for students to prepare for both of these simultaneously.

So , I Would suggest you to go for both the exams only if you have prepared exceptionally well for these and think that you can successfully crack these examinations.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.

Re: Can I attempt both IAS and IES exams in the same year?

To become an IAS you have to appear in the UPSC Civil Services exams.
You can apply to multiple exams in a year but its very difficult to prepare effectively
for both exams Indian Economic Service(IES) and Civil Services exams.
    UPSC Civil Services exams
requires daily study & preparation of about 6-8hrs.
It is one of the most toughest & competitive exam at the All India Level.
The IES exam syllabus and Civil Services exam syllabus is different and exam scheme is also different.
Preparing for both and appearing for both at the same time is like keeping your feet in two boats at a time.
If you feel still that you can manage it you can apply, there is no restriction on applyig to both UPSC exams together in a year.

The exam notification for UPSC IES exams has been advertised and last date for
submission of forms is 1st Oct 2012 and exams are to be held on 1st Dec 2012.

    dear friend,

first of all IAS is not a Exam it is a post which you can get after clearing Civil Services Exam which is conducted by UPSC.

and coming on your point, yes you can definitely apply for Civil Services and IES exams in same year. There is no restriction on that.

but the posts you get from these exam is different. Through IES exam you will get the posts related to technical field while in Civil Services you will get the posts related to Administration.

    Eligibility Criteria for Civil Services:

    1. Graduation in any discipline

    2. your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of Exam.

    Eligibility Criteria For IES exam:

    1. Engineering degree

    2. your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 January of the year of exam.

there is relaxation in upper age limit for both exams upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/St candidates.

    How To Apply?

you can apply online on following link:

    Hi dear

Yes; you can attempt both the exams in the same year.

There is no restriction like this by UPSC in the eligibility criteria for any Exam.

You can attempt all the UPSC Exams for which you are eligible.

But the most important thing which you will have to keep in mind is that both these exams have diffrent syllabus and different exam pattern ; so you will need to focus on any one of them according to your interest.

    Good luck.........

    dear friend ,

the answer of your question is definitely yes .

yes you can give two examination in the same year,

there is no any criteria in both the extermination that you can't give two examination in the same year .

definitely you can give both the examination in the same year.

if you have the quality to give give both the examination at the same year with full preparation and confidence than you can definitely give the examination.

here you are talking about civil services examination and engineering examination.

than i think you can attempt both the examination at the same year because if you take your engineering subject as your optional subject than may be it will helpful to you in the engineering services examination.

but my dear friend if you want to know my opinion than i advice you when you take two examination in the same year make sure that there are sufficient difference in dates between the examination (approximately 3-4 months) so you can easily prepared for both the examination mentally.

but you have to be confident about your self to attempt both the excamination.

    good luck@@

Re: Can I attempt both IAS and IES exams in the same year?

Yes you can give both the exam in a single year but provided that you should fulfill the criteria of both the exam.

The criteria for IAS exam are below:

=> One must be graduated from any recognized university in any field.

=> Age limit : 21-30 for general cast , upper age relaxation for reserved cast.

The criteria for IES exam are below:

    => one must have completed B.E./B.Tech or M.Sc .

=> Age limit is same as above.

But both the exam have different exam pattern.

But it is better for you to apply for any single exam because both the exams are very tough and require lots of preparation.

So it is good to apply only one exam and prepare for it.

    Thank you...

    hi
yes my dear friend you can apply for both of the IES as well as for the IAS examination, and that too in the same year.
The only thing is that for giving the exam you need to fulfill the respective eligibility criteria.
For giving the IES exam, you need to be a graduate in mechanical/civil/ece/electrical engienring
And for giving the IAS examination you need to be a graduate in any stream from a recognized indian university.
And in both of the examinations, the age limit for giving the exam is 21-30 years and there is a relaation of 3 and 5 years given to the obc and the sc/st candidates respectively.
