Yes my friend. It is very compulsory to clear the prelimns first in order to go through the civil services examination.
The preliminary examination is just a phase of selection for the upsc posts. The recruitment os done on the basis of three phases or rounds. The first round is the prelims.
The second round is the mains examination and the final round is the personal interview round and thereafter only you can get into the civil services

Re: Is it compulsory to clear Prelims exam for entering in Civil Services?

    Dear Friend,

The Civil services Exam is considered as one of the toughest examinations conducted every year.

This is because the exam is conducted in the below mentioned three stages :

    1) Preliminary Examination

    2) MAINS Examination

    3) Personal Interview

If you want to crack the Civil Services Exam , then its really compulsory for you to clear all the three examinations separately otherwise its not possible to pass the civil services exam by just passing any of the three exams mentioned above.

So , as per your query , i think now you are clear that yes its mandatory to clear the Preliminary Exam if you want to appear for the Civil services MAINS Exam.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
