Examination Pattern for UPSC Indian Civil Service Examination

Preliminary Examination : This is the screening test in that candidate will have to appear for two papers that are - General Studies and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test and each of these papers contains 200 marks for all objective type questions

Qualifying in Prelims is mandatory by securing minimum qualifying marks

Main Examination : Following Seven Papers will be conducted in this examination and all papers are of conventional type pattern :

Paper I - Section I for Essay that contains 200 marks and Section II for English Comprehension - 100 marks

Paper II, III, IV, V for General Studies - 250 marks each

Paper VI and VII - Optional Subject Paper - 250 marks each

Optional subjects are listed below :

    Agriculture
    Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil Engineering
    Commerce and Accountancy
    Economics
    Electrical Engineering

    Medical Science
    Philosophy

You are allowed to choose anyone optional subject from this list and both of the last papers will be based on that subject so here I request you that you should be careful while selection and choose a subject in which you are confident that you can really score good marks then only you should opt otherwise take suggestion of any expert so they will guide you on that and mainly try to get close with the specialization subject of your bachelor's degree or any other interesting subject that you know well about because you have an opportunity to get good marks in main examination that is why you should take advantage and choose interesting subject and get good marks for final selection

Complete syllabus of each subject and detailed information about this exam are available in attached notification please download
