    hi
IAS exam is held only once in an year which is conducted by the upsc.
The exam is been conducted in three phases and these three phases take almost an year to complete the whole process. The first stage is the prelimns stage, which is the objective paper, the second stage is the mains stage and this is the paper conducted in written form and the last stage is the interview stage, if you cleared all the three phases of the examination then you will be an IAS officer

Dear UPSC IAS examination is conducted by UPSC board once in a year but there are two parts of this examination which are following as

Preliminary Examination : There will be 2 papers in objective type mode conducted in this exam and each paper contains 200 marks and qualifying in this test is compulsory to be eligible for mains examination

Mains examination : If you appear for prelims exam then you will get the result after 2 months and if you got passed in this examination then you will be allowed to appear for mains examination after some months and dates will be fixed by UPSC board for every single section examination so that you need to appear for examination on right date and main thing is your qualifying because if you could not qualify in prelims then you will not be allowed for mains exam

Now you can see that there are two stages of this examination but both exams conduct in the same year and this year UPSC IAS prelims is going to be conducted at 26th May 2013 and mains examination is going to be conducted at 01-12-2013

Re: How many times IAS exam is held in a year?

    Dear Guest,

UPSC Civil Service Admission Test(CSAT) which includes IAS/IPS/IFS is held once in a year.

The notification of the exam comes out in the month of Nov/Dec of the previous year of the examination.

And the exam is held in the month of May.

Candidates who passed the CSAT exam will be eligible for IAS mains exam to be held after 4-5 months after CSAT

Although these are tentative schedule but if the date changes UPSC will notify it.

I hope the above information will help you a lot.

    THANK & REGARDS.
