Is my decision right to take mathematics as an optional subject for UPSC mains exam?

    Dear experts/advisor,
I am happy to learn that I am fully motivated to crack the UPSC CSE. I am still a student graduating this july as a Btech in elec. Engg. Though I am not the best student in math, just say I am a regular student, But I wish to opt. Math as a subject for the exam because I love Math. So ll there be a chance that I ll hate math like anything after the exam. Am I taking the wrong decision?
Any kind of suggestion or an advice is highly saluted.

Dear, For UPSC's Civil Services Exams are not tough but its too competitive. You can miss the train just for a point. So, its totally depends on you. while Math is a scoring subject. But you have to learn in depth. but don't waste time on a single topic. Just clear your concept. You must be confident about it. Take it as your Optional Subject and solve all problems from your 10+2 level. Ultimately you feel the confidence. Its good to know that you are a regular student in math. So, don't mind and go ahead....Goood Luck....

Of- course Dear, its a good decision. because Maths is a subject where, even examiner can't cut marks with his own point of view. If the answer is right than no one can deduct a single mark from the answer sheet....So, go ahead...

MATHEMATICS is indeed a a very tough subjects for the upsc civil services examination.
but if you are fully determined to take this subject as one of the subject for the MAINS EXAMINATION then don't worry this will be the choice for the examination.

and in my suggestion you should take some easier subject as the other option for this mains examination.
that can be history or geography. these subjects are really interesting subjects and are considered to be very scoring for this examination.
apart from that these subjects will give you sufficient time for your preparation for the mathematics .

First of all congratulation for passing the Preliminary exam .

As you are a electric engineer so that you took electric engineering as one of the optional subject .

As you have interest in Maths so that you should carry on Maths as your optional subject .

You learnt the maths in your engineering so that you aware most of the concept related to maths .

You should need much practices on this subject because you studied all the maths .

And if you select other subject than you should give more time on that subject .

You also see the previous year question papers for the Maths so that you should know the exam pattern , type of questions etc .

So if you have confidence in maths then carry on that subject .

    good luck

    Hi Aspirant,

It is very good that you are highly motivated for the preparation of civil service exam

Civil Service exam is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of post of IAS, IPS or IRS.

As you know Civil service is the toughest exam of India.

So you have need to do specific preparation in right direction.

If you are quite good student only then you should choose math as optional subject.

Because math is consider tough subject.

If you are not so good in math you can choose other subject.

Optional subjects have main role in the success of Civil exam.

If your selection for optional subject is good then there is lot of chances of success.

Only Optional subjects carries 1200 marks out of 2000 marks.

There are 4 paper of optional subject, two paper of each subject and each paper hold 300 marks.

Therefore friend I will suggest you to choose only that subject in which you are confident.
