    Hi Aspirant,

For the preparation of civil service mains exam you can choose any optional subject as per your interest and desire.

UPSC civil service exam is conducted in following stages

    Preliminary exam (400 marks)

    Mains exam (2000 marks)

    Interview (300 marks)

In prelims exam you will not have to choose any optional subject. It is the paper of general studies.

While in the preparation mains exam you will have to choose two optional subjects. Optional subject holds total 1200 marks.

As you mentioned that you belong to biomedical engineering, so you should at least choose one subject which is related to your education and you are well familiar and core knowledge of subject.

You can also choose other subject related to your stream or some other like history, geography etc.

Here I am giving the list of optional subject in mains exam.

    Agriculture
    Animal husbandry & vetinary science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
