    Dear Aspirant

As you have completed your graduation i.e. B.Tech in Electrical Engineering so you are eligible for appearing in engineering service. The exam is conducted in three days consisting of following format of question paper
    Section I - Objective Type
Paper I - General Ability Test - English Language and General Studies (200 marks)
Paper II – Electrical Engineering Paper (200 marks)
Paper III –Electrical Engineering Paper (200 marks)

    Section II - Conventional Type
Paper I – Electrical Engineering paper (200 marks)
Paper II – Electrical Engineering paper (200 marks)

I have told you the examination pattern and now downlaod previous years question paper and start solving question of any recent previous years. This will give you idea where you stand and how much your grasp over topic .After solving question paper analyze your strengths and weakness and then make a plan and start preparing. If your concepts are not good then join any reputed institute. They will clear concepts.Even if your not joining any coaching institute then also give mock test taken by coaching institute if you would like to do well.

Besides this dont think of the percentage you have got in B.Tech if you really want to do good. You will have to dedicate yourself only for 1 years and you can crack the examination

    All the best

Friend, since IES exam is conducted by UPSC and in any of the UPSC conducted exam there is no % requirement for attempting the exam. For IES, you need to be graduated from a recognised university. In most of the UPSC exams, 1st there is a written test and students qualifying the tsets are called for the interview.

Re: Is there any minimum percentage required in Engineering to be eligible for IES exam?

Yes, you are definitely eligible to apply for IES(Indian Engineering Services) exam after completing B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with 57% marks in 5 years. There is no minimum percentage criteria for IES. for IES you must have engineering degree in any Branch from recognized college or university with any percentage. Final year Engineering candidates are also eligible to write exam.

you are required to give the papers by choosing any one of the following four streams.
    1. Civil Engineering
    2. Electrical Engineering
    3. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
    4. Mechanical Engineering

As your branch Electrical Engineering is also listed so you can apply for IES exam with your core branch.

In IES there is tough competition so you are required to work hard to get higher ranks. whatever happen in past leave it. Now it is history. and i will advice you to concentrate on preparation and study from heart.

for IES your age must be within 21 years to 30 years . there is relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

For IES there is no limit of number of attempts. you can apply any number of times within age limit.

You have to apply for the exam online on following official link of UPSC. For filling the application form visit:

Re: Is there any minimum percentage required in Engineering to be eligible for IES exam?

Dear if you have completed B.Tech in Electrical Branch with 57% marks and took 5 years to complete your bachelor's degree on the place of 4 years that is minimum duration to complete BE or B.Tech degree then also there is no problem at all in applying for Indian Engineering Service Examination because minimum required educational qualification is - Obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an act of central of State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act 1956

There is no specific requirement about percentage marks in any academic class by the board so you should not worry and just apply for this examination because you are 100% eligible. Age criteria also matters in this test and that is - Minimum required age 21 years and should not be more than 30 years. If you cross maximum age limit and belongs to reserved category so you can claim for upper age relaxation according to government norms - 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC

This year's IES Examination has been conducted between June-July 2013 so next year's IES examination notice will be announced around the same time so you should wait for that but also be prepared for IES 2014 so you could easily secure more than required qualifying marks and get job

Examination Pattern for IES 2013-14 : Following sections will be there in examination contains different papers

Section I - Objective Type Test : 2 hours of duration and each paper contains 200 marks

Paper I - General Ability Test - This paper includes two subjects that are - General English and General Studies

Paper II - Selected optional branch according to specialization of bachelor's degree means if you apply for IES under E & T branch then your all other papers will be based on that particular specialization subject and all questions will be asked on that subject

Paper III - Selected Specialization subject from the list

Section II - 3 hours of duration and each paper contains 200 marks and all papers will be conducted only in conventional type pattern

Paper I - Based on the selected particular branch - Civil/ Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication/ Mechanical

Paper II - Any one of the Civil/ Electrical/ E & T/ Mechanical chosen by the candidate while applying for examination

All other details about this examination are mentioned in attached notification please download
