Below is the details of the optional subjects for the UPSC.
- History of India and Indian national movement
- Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
- Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
- Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
- General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization
- General science
- Current events of national and international importance
- Comprehension
- English language comprehension skills (Class X level)
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
- Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
- The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.

general studies, hindi, enlgish, essay writing, ethics are the subjects which are compulsory for the mains IAS examination along with the one optional subject that you need to chose on your own among the list of the subjects that is provided by the upsc.
This is the pattern which is recently updated by the upsc from this year only.

There is no specific Subjects Requirement to join Civil services exam.
It is good that you want to join Civil services exam. To join civil services exam, you must be passed a graduation degree from a Indian recognized university.
Your age should be between 21-30 years. There is no Percentage requirement in your graduation degree.
Appearing in final year candidates is also Eligible.
As you know civil services is very Tough exam. it consist two exam;-Prelims and Mains exam
Prelims exam consist Two papers of General studies. Therefore you have to increase Your Gk and Current affairs Knowledge.
On the other Hand, Mains exam consist Optional subjects, General studies, General English, Qualify Language papers etc...
You have to choose optional subjects in which you have full Knowledge or field related Subjects.
After clearing you will be called for Personal Interview.
There is no requirement for any compulsory subjects to apply civil services exam but you have to control on your GK,English and math.
