UPSC conducts the examination called SCRA which stands for Special class railway apprentice examination.




The details regarding this examination are:

>>The required education qualification for this examination is 10+2 form a recognised board with the compulsory subjects such as physics,chemistry and mathematics.

>>Your % of marks should not be less than 60.

>>the age should be between 17 to 21 years.

For the post in railways you have to clear the UPSC SCRA(Special Class Railways Apprentice) Exam.

Eligibility Criteria For SCRA:

1. 12th with Physics and mathematics or equivalent. candidates appearing in 12th can also take part in SCRA exam.

2. Age Limit:

• your age must be within 17 years to 21 years

the candidates who clears SCRA exam will be given 4 years apprenticeship in a railway workshop. (In case a candidate wishes to discontinue from apprenticeship, he has to settle all expenses incurred on him by the govt.) During this period, they will be given both theoretical & practical training. There will also be examinations- 8 semester exams- each semester has to be passed. If they fail, then they may be asked to either write supplementary exam or removed from apprentice (if performance is very poor)
After successful completion of apprenticeship, they will be given as probationary officer posts in Indian railways for a period of 18 months. they will also get Mechanical Engineering degree from birla institute of technology(ranchi ) .THerafter depending upon performance, they will be retained .
