i have read the some previous postings for this question i think its good but not complete in the sense of question yes as they said it is divided into two parts prelims and mains. before attempting the prelims only one should have a clear plan regarding taking a chance for exam and should be serious about that and as attempts are countable it is precious too so first thing is when to take? because one need a minimum of six to ten months of deep study for cracking it.and other thing is commitment it requires lot and lot of commitment from the applicant and regarding optionals in main also one should be very careful and if one thinks may be one books per subject is enough for cracking it then its a myth because there is no one complete book for it you have to collect information from all source as possible and if possible take a help of some training institutes who can help out to some extent and last thing is one to give atleast three to four daily for preparation.
