upsc exams are based on some qualifications,

AGE LIMITS,..

GENERAL>>>21 to 30 yrs
OBC>>>21 to 33 yrs
SC/ST>>>21 to 35 yrs



EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION...

A passed graduation degree from any RECOGNIZED UNIVERSITY.....

you are petrolium engineer,then u can appear for upsc exam
civil service exam is a very prestegious job in india,it is class A officers in india,
once you have cleared the upsc exam,u have lots of powers and also you have good future

if you can go to oil/gas sector you have good future but you didnt get any powers

so you cant compare to both fields

I am a petroleum engineering graduate and I wish to appear for UPSC Civil services examination. Kindly suggest if it wud be better to opt for geography with Public Administration or geology with the latter, as my optional subjects for mains?

yes you can give civil service exam.
apply during your final year. there is no percentage criteria.
just need bachelor degree.

civil services are better than oil/gas sector.
if you want to do something to nation/people prefer civil services.
if you just need money prefer oil/gas sector.

Working under the central Government after qualifying the Civil Service Examinations is much much better than working under the OiL/Gas Sector.

yes,you can for CIVIL SERVICES examination if you comply with all the essential criteria to sit in the examination.

you can't compare two jobs of totally different profiles.

but if you once cleared the civil services then it is sure that you have both power & good status along with money .you are recruited as a class "A' officer,it is one of the elite examination in the country.

while

as an petroleum engineer it is upto you how fast you learn then you earn...as you grow in experience accordingly you grow money who know's you can do better than IAS but it is uncertain.

As a petroleum engineer your career must be B.tech in ELECTRICAL or MECHANICS .
yes civil services is better than scope in oil & gas.
For exam first mentally prepared then fore more help you can join in any institute for exam
In upsc exam you can choose one technical paper as an optional and one of the another paper you can choose from upsc advt .

~~Choose the optional subjects for the Mains exams to your strength.Prefer arts subjects such as the INDIAN HISTORY and PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION because,not only they have a high success rate and are very scoring,but also do they form a core part in the preliminary exams.
~~Improve your writing skills.Also improve upon the Grammatical mistakes as the Mains papers are mainly subjective and the Essay writing consists of 200 vital marks.

As a Petroleum engineering Student you are eligible for UPSC's civil services. But its totally depends on you whether you need Money or Power. If you need huge money than go through OIL/GAS sector and if you think you need Power to help people or to give something to society or nation than only go through CIVIL SERVICES. At first be CLEAR about your self that what you want, Money which is for you or Power which is not for you? Than only choose yr. career in CIVIL SERVICES. Secondly, grades are not important in your degree level. Its important to score higher in UPSC.
