    Hi Aspirant

Well first thing and the main important thing is how to increase your current affairs knowledge

for the exam needs up to the mark as for the exam you need a good general knowledge

Steps To Increase General Knowledge and Newspaper learning tips :

First choose a good news paper means a national reputed newspaper

and the newspaper should be national not a local newspaper

and read it carefully daily and regular basis and you have to read it daily

means daily not sometimes and pay your all attention towards the newspaper

and point out the main points like in economics what is the GDP Current rate of

our country and what are ways that how can we increase our gdp growth

and all brief details about it and same like birth rate and many other important issues

And in business topics like Tata Corus merger deals and many more news like this

According to my personal experience i don't think cramming main points is a good idea

rather than this just read newspaper carefully with cool mind and understands the topic

so that you don't need to write down the important points

but it is your wish so choose any of the way

    Thanks

Re: How to utilize newspapers to learn and note current affairs?

1- Always ask a question to yourself while reading any article in the newspaper- 'What can be the question framed by UPSC related to this news?'

2- Don't give too much attention to news related to political equations of the political parties. A cursory look will suffice.

3- Pay special attention to news related to:
polity (new bills, acts, any constitutional body like EC, Finance Commission, etc),
economy(new announcements, policies, changes in earlier policies) --- analyse the news for its effect on the life of aam aadmi and on the nation.
S&T (UPSC can ask any question related to this. So, read everything related to S&T)

4- Learn to filter the news fast as the most valuable thing for aspirants is TIME

5- Read the editorials carefully but do not waste too much time in reading useless articles.

6- Mere reading of newspaper won't do so you have to make permanent record of what you have read in the form of gist

    Hello Friend,

To crack UPSC civil services examination, one should give around 2 hrs to 'study' the newspapers. Reading/Studying the newspaper is an art that one need to master to crack civil services. Below are the steps that you can follow to do smart reading of the newspapers.

6- Mere reading of newspaper won't do so you have to make permanent record of what you have read in the form of "gist". For it, follow the steps given below:
    a) Use loose sheets (A4) to write your gist.
    b) Write about a single topic on single leaf. Use different leaves for different topics.
    c) Store leaves related to economy together and same for other subjects.
    d) Mark economy leaves as Eco 1, Eco 2 .... and maintain an index for the topics. This will make your life easier while appending and retrieving the info from your notes.
    e) Write only gist of the news.

The MANTRA is 'Read what can be asked not what you like'

    I hope this helps you.

    Thanks,
