Re: What is the difference between IAS,PCS and IRS exam conducted by UPSC?

IAS(Indian administrative service) and IRS (indian revenue service) comes under civil service exam conducted by UPSC. There is no separate exam for IAS,IRS
BAsed upon the marks secured by the candidates in civil service exam and the preference given by the candidates, they are alloted to either IAS or IRS.
IAS is all india service, while IRS is central govt. service. Once you become IAS, you are also alloted a particular state (state cadre) based on your rank. Once alloted, you have to serve as IAS within that state only, except under certain circumstances you are posted outside
IRS is central govt. service and you can be posted anywhere in India and also transferred to any other place, not necessarily in same state in which you worked before.
PCS is provincial civil service such as KAS(kerala administrative service), coonducted by state public service commission for civil posts in the state. Through these exams you can get posts such as thashildhar, RDO etc

Indian Administrative Services, abbreviated as IAS, are actually the civil based administrative services of the Government of India. The officers that are designated as IAS are the ones that relate to the policy making of our nation and relates to the complete bureaucracy of the Union Government that covers both the two forms, that is the Central as well as the State government.

Provincial Civil Services, abbreviated as PCS, are actually the civil based administrative services of the State Government. These officers relate to the policy making of the state to which they belong.

The Indian Revenue Service ( भारतीय राजस्व सेवा, Bhāratīya Rājaswa Sevā), abbreviated as IRS, is the revenue service of the govt. of India. It is one of the Central Civil Service. The Service functions under the Department of Revenue in the Union Ministry Of Finance and is concerned with the collection and administration of the various direct and indirecttaxes accruing to the Union Govt.
