So, you have to prepare yet. First of all you have to go through the Question Pattern for which exam you want to appear. Re: What can I do to start preparation for UPSC exams after B.D.S? first of all choose two optional according to your accessibilty in which you think that while learning you will enjoy most. then make another step how you will gather the materila to study them. there afer learn according to the syllabus of UPSC. break your study in two parts one for prelim's preparation & other for the mains examkination. I will suggsted you to choose among HISTORY,GEOGRAPHY<PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION,pol. SCIENCE as you any two optionals for the mains because these few subjects are covers more than 50% of preliminary exam which very necessary to clear if want to write for the mains examination. AS you are from medical field so ,it will save your time & you need not to study specially for preliminary in these subjects. other things you can do are 1.read newspaper daily like hindu,times of india 2.learn NCERT from III-XII level 3.order correspondance course so you can in touch , that your preparation going upto date with others. 4.study previous year modal test & try to solve them by imposing exam bounded conditions ,& analysis yourself 5. appeared for different test series organised bby different institutes. 6.give MOCK test online or offline whichever suits you.

Collect NCERT Books of class VIII to XII learn by heart 2. Competition Refreshers 3. for Numerical ability and Reasoning go for UPKAR Books, Bright Books etc. 4.Be careful for the selection of Optional subjects. Opt those which are comfortable for you. 5. It's better to go coaching, if you have confusion and concepts are not cleared So, go ahead now....Good Luck...!!!

You can also practice more and more MODEL Question Papers from a sample paper by which you can experience to the Questions coming in UPSC exams. There are two types of written examination in UPSC. UPSC Prelim exam and UPSC Mains exam. You will appear in UPSC Prelim exam first in which Objective type Questions are asked from General English, General Studies etc. For UPSC Mains you have to choose Subjects. There are total 51 Optional Subjects in which 23 are from main subjects and 28 Language Subjects like Hindi, English, Bengali etc.
