    To do UPSC civil services there are 23 optional subjects so you are to choose as per your interest/experience.Being a petroleum engineer you can opt your academic career related subjects which enable you to score high as well as it will help more re-times.Subjects like physics/chemistry/mathematics may be the academic related subjects but if you have the interests about Indian History that also ok.Now exercise your self cofidence/power to choose optional subject for UPSC exam.

    hello,Selecting optional subjects is up to your interest and subjects related to your course ,as you are a petroleum engineer so you have so many subjects to choose but as far as my opinion is concern you can go for physics for more informotion:-http://www.upsc.gov.ingood luck.....

    Well dear as you are a petroleum engineer so you have so many subjects to choose.if you want to take subjects related to your course then you can go for physics and chemistry.as you are in a job so you can take humanities subjects like public administration history sociology.

    If you are a petroleum engineer so you can choose chemistry or physics as an optional subject, it makes your practice more simple. As you are reading these subject from childhood.
