Yes sir,

you are eligible for upsc examination because it doesn't matter that you are on job or not .

There is only two
requirement for the exam.

1. You must be an indian citizen.
2. You must be a graduate with a govt. Recognized university.

but remember there is an age criteria also .you must fulfill the age criteria also.

age criteria:-


1. For general-21-30 years.

2. For sc/st -2135 years.

3. For obc -21-33 years.

no. Of attempts.

1.for general- 4

2.for obc- 7

3.for sc/st- no any restriction.

and you should be physically strong and have a good command over english then yo can do it

dear friend,

as you have completed diploma so you are not eligible for UPSC exams.
for UPSC you need to complete your graduation. so, if you really want to apply for UPSC exams first complete your graduation. you can complete your graduation correspondence from recognized college or university. then apply for UPSC IAS,IPS, IES,CDS,IFS,CPF etc Exams.

Eligibility Criteria:

you must complete or appearing in final year of graduation from recognized college or university.

Age Limit:
Category Age

1.General 21 years to 30 years.

2.OBC 21 years to 33 years.

3.SC/ST 21 years to 35 years.

and for Central Government employ there is 5 years of relaxation in upper age limit.

Hi Aspirant,

Of course friend you can apply for UPSC exam being a government employee.

There is no restriction for government employee to apply UPSC job.

But friend candidates with only diploma in civil engineering are not allowed for UPSC exam.

Only you should fulfill the criteria of UPSC exam.


Required Criteria for UPSC exam

You should be graduate in any stream from recognized university.

Final year students are also eligible to apply for UPSC exam.

No marks of percentage required.

Your age should be 21 to 30 years.

Age relaxation as per government norms

SC/ST + 5 years

OBC + 3 years

PH + 10 years

You must be Indian.


Exam Pattern

Preliminary exam ( 400 marks)

Mains exam ( 2300 marks)

Dear, Of-course you can. But, you must have Degree and not a Diploma Holder. If you are Graduate in Engineering also you can apply for Civil Services even you are an employee of Central Government Department. So, don't worry, if your age is within 21-30 yrs. than you can apply for the same. Good Luck....

first of all as you havenot done your graduation yet as you have mentioned that you are a DIPLOMA holder from the civil engineering.

IT makes you Ineligible for appearing in the UPSC exam,because there is basis demand of being graduation by the UPSC for the apppearing in the exam which is not in your case,
so first do your graduaation either from correspondance or regular course to be eligible for the same.

you can appear for the examinations

1.civil services examination (for IAS,IPS)

whose eligibility criteria are :
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA ::
You must be a citizen ofIndia,

or, You must be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan,
or,You must be a Tibetan refugee settled permanently in India before 1962.


You must be of 21 to 30 years of age. HOWEVER,there is a relaxation in the upper age limit,
of 3 years for the OBCs
and
5 years for the SC/STs.


You must have completed your Graduation orEquivalent,from a recognized university under any
stream,or be a final year student in the same

The number of attempts is 4 for a General category student,
7 for an OBC candidate,and
unlimited for a SC/ST candidate,until he fulfills the age criteria


there is 5 years relaxation by the upsc for the govt. employees of central govt.

reconsigned university.

3 years relaxtion for the obc category and 5 years for the sc/st category.

I am diploma in civil engineering. Working as Junior Engineer (Civil) in Central Government Department i.e. Andaman Lakshadweep
Harbour Works in the Pay Band of Rs. 9300-34800 with grade pay Rs. 4200/-. I am a permanent employee working with this department
since August 2009. I want to appear for UPSC exams..Please tell me if I can appear in the UPSC exam and the age limit for the exam.
Also please tell me if there is any age relaxation for government employees.
