Once you read more and more newspaper, your English and the writing skills will improve automatically. This will help you in writing essays. But newspaper alone cannot help you to crack the exam. You need to devote an equal amount of time on other subjects as well. So you must form a time table where you allot time to each subject. Solve more questions to improve your maths and statistics. Always keep two things in mind- 1) Hard work is the only ladder to success 2) Practice makes a man perfect Best of Luck for exam!
