Re: What is difference between IAS and IPS officer?

Both IAS and IPS exams are conducted by UPSC. Still there is a difference in them. In IPS physical fitness is must, the hieght should be more than 160 cm,chest when expanded should not be less than 80 cm. In IAS,there is no physical fitness required. Only written exams should be qualified with marks.

Dear Friend,The basic difference between the both are that both IAS and IPS are streams that are a part of the joint exam conducted by UPSC. The selection procedure is similar and all applicants have to pass through the same screening procedure. High rank holders become an IAS while those having lower ranks have to join IPS. However, of late situation is changing and police service is also gaining a lot of popularity. There are top ranking students who themselves opt to become an IPS. There are reasons behind this phenomenon. Post 1993, police has become very important in the administrative setup and their influence in the society has increased manifold because of terrorism and Naxal activities in the country. If we were to differentiate between IAS and IPS, their duties are clearly demarcated. IAS personnel handle governmental affairs and are absorbed in the administrative setup, while IPS are personnel that take up the challenging responsibility of maintaining law and order in the society. While an IAS can hold posts like Cabinet Secretary, Under Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary, IPS officers clearly belong to the police force and hold posts like Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General. These officers can be posted in different wings of police department such as CBI, CID etc.And the difference according to post is-IAS Administrative ServiceIPS Maintain Law and OrderIAS Cabinet Secretary, Under Secretary, Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and SecretaryIPS Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General and Inspector GeneralThank You!

    IAS and IPS
Indian administrative service.it is prestigious when compared to IPS.more higher post is given to the IAS when compared with the IPS.It has cabinet secretary, undersecretary, additional secretary, joint secretary. It carries only administrative services .It is underataken by the upsc.for qualifying either in ias or in IPS one should be having the ability to complete the preliminary exam and mains and based on the performance interview will be held for that and they should qualify in that and based on that merit list will be allotted for them to become a respected choice of their wish.while ips stands for the indian police service .It has jobs pertaining to superintendent police, deputy inspector general and inspector general.IPS is always depend upon the applicationprocess where as the ias depends upon the administrative procedure and always takes the activities of government officials where as the ips used to satisfy the needs of the society by protecting them from naxalities and other terrorists and rrobbers.usually high grade rankers prefer for the services of government officials and lower grade rankers prefer for the job in application process but the trend today is changed some of the people even though they got the good grade are preferring for the police as they think that they are well suit for the job.

The Indian Administrative Service(abbreviated as IAS) is the administrative civil service of the Government of India.

Indian Administrative Service officers hold key positions in the Union Government,

State governments and Public Sector Undertakings.

The Administrative Service is one of the three All India Services

The Indian Police Service , simply known as Indian Police or IPS,

is one of the three All India Services of theGovernment of India.[4] In 1948, a year after India gained independence from Britain, the Imperial Police (IP) was replaced by the Indian Police Service.

    Dear,
The IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service and IPS stands for Indian Police Service. Both the services are conducted by the UPSC through CSAT. The IAS is the top most administrative job of the district while the IPS is the highest police officer of a district. The IAS officer are recruited as the Administrative officer or the District magistrate or collector of a district, whereas the IPS officer is the Superintendent of Police of a district. The Sp of a district works under the direction of the District Magistrate of that district. Thanks...........

Re: What is difference between IAS and IPS officer?

both posted are offered through merit basis by a common examination conducted by the upsc which is known as 'civil services examination'.

generally many aspirants opt's IAS as their choice over the IPS.

so on the basis of pattern & other things i will suggested you to opt. for IAS over THe IPS as former carries more power than the later.

    IAS= Indian administrative services

These generally are the officer who are posted in various posts which are comes under directly in central govt. & state govt. both , simultaneously they work for both.
they can transferred or betowed with different responsibility like from district collector to the head of various administrative department's like CMO,PMO offices.

    whereas Indian police services

    i
n IPS you are posted only through the various location of indian police established within country right from a district in north-east to kanyakumari anywhere in any forces like police, paramilitary forces head i.e as director general later on etc.
