according to me Psychology is best subject for IPS, IAS or IRS post which conducts by UPSC. So you should choose psychology subject. And best coaching institute Rau's Study Circle this institute provides many types of facility like good study material and brilliant tutorials and many more.

    dear aspirant,

UPSC conduct Civil Services exam for the posts of IAS, IPS, IRS etc. for appearing in Civil Services exam you must have completed graduation in any discipline.

Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:1. CSAT
    2. Mains
    3. Interview

CSAT is fully objective type and there is no optional subject in CSAT. you have to choose optional subjects for Mains exam.

between subjects Sociology and Psychology, i would recommend you Psychology. As it is an easy subject and easy to understand. and with that you can choose Public Administration as 2nd optional subject.

In Delhi Rau's Study circle is the best coaching center for IAS in delhi. you can join the center. They also provide godd study notes.

    Good Luck....

    Hi Aspirant,

Friend you have taking good decision and you can do the preparation for the civil service exam from your home.

To crack the Civil Service exam you have need of specific and very hard preparation.

Civil Service exam is conducted for the post of IAS, IPS or IRS and these are the top level post of Indian government.

Civil Service exam is conducted in three stages

    Preliminary

    Mains

    Interview

Prelims exam is objective type with multiple choice question. In mains exam you will have to choose two optional subjects. It is subjective type exam paper.

You are confused about sociology and psychology. So friend you should choose the subject as per your interest.

For the preparation of civil service exam you can join any good coaching institute.

So friend you can join any good coaching but Chanakya coaching institute is much better than any other institute.

In the institute you can get proper direction for the preparation.

    Best of Luck

Which optional is best between Sociology and Psychology? Which coaching institute provides good study material among Brilliant tutorials, Rau's Study circle, Chanakya IAS Academy & Khan Study group?

I am a BDS graduate, based in Delhi, planning to take my 1st attempt at civil services next year. I am more interested in studying at home with study material from any good coaching centre.

I am looking for a well structured course material for the following optionals:

1.Sociology or Psychology ( am confused between the two..any suggestions?)
    2.Public Administration

Following are the names of coaching institutes which provide good study material:
1.Brilliants tutorials ( though I've heard their material has many extra unwanted information not relevant from exam point of view)

    2.Rau's study circle
    3.Chanakya IAS academy
    4.Khan Study Group

Any suggestion as to which would be best? I've also heard that Ignou provides the notes for IAS optionals..any feedback on this..are they any good?
