    dear aspirant,

as you have completed graduation now you can apply for IAS.
because for IAS you need graduation degree from recognized college or university with any percentage. For IAS you have to write UPSC Civil Services Exam.

here you need to note that from 2013 UPSC has changed the pattern of Civil Services exam. In Prelims(CSAT) there is no optional Subject and in Main now you have to choose only one optional subject instead of two.

    Pattern For Prelims Exam:

    General Studies Paper - I 200 Marks

General Studies Paper - II 200 Marks

    Pattern For Mains Exam:

    Paper-I

    Section 1 Essay 200 Marks

Section 2 English Comprehension 100 Marks
    & English Prcis
    (Of Matriculation/ Xth standard
    level)

    Paper-II

    General StudiesI 250Marks
    (Indian Heritage and Culture,
History and Geography of the World
    and Society)

    Paper-III

    General Studies II 250 Marks
    (Governance, Constitution,
    Polity, Social Justice and
    International relations)

    Paper-IV

    General Studies III 250 Marks
    (Technology, Economic Development,
    Bio-diversity, Environment, Security
    and Disaster Management)

    Paper-V

    General Studies IV 250 Marks
    (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

    Paper-VI

Optional Subject Paper 1 250 Marks

    Paper-VII

Optional Subject Paper 2 250 Marks

Sub Total (Written test) 1800 Marks

    Personality Test 275 Marks.

I completed my graduation in botany so I am deciding to take up botany as an optional in upsc so can anyone here please guide me as of which books to refer to for the mains?
As botany is not really a conventional optional I'm not really getting much help related to which books to refer to and which study material to read.

I am in desperate need of some guidance.

    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    An IAS aspirant.

    HELLO SIR

being a lecturer, lecturer itself a student right.unless he wont be in touch with the book, then he cant be sure to teach to the class.

if you are choosing for botany and zoology then friend you should be from biology back ground or should have little knowledge about the subject then only you can understand the concept in books.

or you can choose the subject in which you are working as a lecturer.it wont take time to refer and you would come across new terms in hindi language.right

    -maintain time schedule
-do the revision whenever you got time
-study materials i do not think you need to prefer.
better to opt for botany zoology textbook of inter/12 or BSc,you will easily follow it

""always desire to learn something useful"

    good luck

    thank you

It all depends upon your area of interest.
I you are comfortable studying Botany, then you should go for it.
But if you think that Zoology is your cup of tea, then you should go for that subject.

Proper Time management is also very important.

dear according to me you should choose psychology, sociology bcoz in this both subjects you can score more marks for both IAS or IFS exam. If you will choose botany and zoology then you will have to hard work, and very struggle but which subjects I told you in that subjects you will do not need to very struggle and hard work. which subjects I told you for that you should follow below strategy:-

    1. reading daily newspapers and magazines n note down main points from the newspapers.
