Re: What is the difference between General and OBC quota in UPSC exam? Difference between General and OBC The Central Government of India classifies some of its citizens based on their social and economic condition SC-Schedule Cast ST-Schedule Tribe General OBC -Other Backward Class. The OBC list presented by the commission is dynamic (castes and communities can be added or removed) and will change from time to time depending on social, educational and economic factors. For example, the OBCs are entitled to 27% reservations in public sector employment and higher education. In the constitution, OBCs are described as "socially and educationally backward classes", and government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development. In the general category falls the upper cast which has been constituted and categorized by the Government of India. The do not enjoy the same benefit as OBC. Also the reservation in UPSC civil services examinations is as per Government of India Policy that is : For OBC: 27% For SC:15% For ST:7.5% All the Best ....!!!!

Re: What is the difference between General and OBC quota in UPSC exam? Dear as per my knowledge there are some minor differences for both General and OBC category candidates in UPSC exams which are as : >> In UPSC exams and all other government sector competitive exams, there is no provision or relaxation for General category candidates but there is a provision of relaxation for OBC category candidates in government sector exam which is - 3 years upper age relaxation for OBC category candidates but nothing for general category candidates >> Qualifying marks - OBC category candidates get qualified in any competitive exams with less marks than general category as a general category candidate need about 55% marks in preliminary exam to be qualified but a OBC category candidate need about 51% marks to get qualified >> OBC category candidate may attempt any UPSC exam - 7 times but a general category candidate may attempt this exam only for 4 times >> There are some reserved seats or vacancies for SC/ST and OBC category candidates in every competitive exams which can not be distributed to over qualified or educated general category candidates but for if you have more marks than general category candidates and belongs to SC or ST or OBC then you would get the seat or job of general category candidates means general seats are for all. If you are preparing for IPS officer exam then you should be prepared well for this exam because the preliminary is also tough to be qualified but if you are prepared well then you may easily get qualified in this exam All the best
