It is very difficult for me to tell you about the syllabus and coaching institutes for the UPSC exams.UPSC conducts lots of examinations every year and you have not mentioned the name of the UPSC examinations which you asked the required things.

From my point of view I think that you are talking about the Civil services examinations.The civil services examinations is completed in three stages .The first stage is Preliminary test which has following syllabus:

For main examination,you have to select your subject according to which syllabus is there.

see ,to prepare for the UPSC exam you need to prepare as per the syllabus of the exam.
their are various exams conducted under USC and each of them got a differnet paper pattern and syllabus.

you should also try to get access to the previosu year solved papers of the UPSC exam and then solve them to rate your preparation.

you should keep in mind the negative marking system.
loosing a single mark due to negative marking makes a huge difference.
So attempt only those questions in which you are truly confident.

general syllabus of upsc includes general studies, current affairs, english, reasoning etc. but different exams under upsc have different syllabus. for detailed info. visit upsc.gov.in
