    Hello,

Aptitude is correctly defined as the tendency of an individual to produce a desired result in a given field of interest. It is future oriented. The aptitude tests are meant to guage your skills and talent level that will be required to solve problems of a given field. It may maths aptitude test, english aptitude test etc. A bigger and broad term for aptitude is Intelligence. When intelligence is considered in narrow perspective, it is called aptitude.

Since, the functions of a civil servant of an IES officer is well defined to a large extent, the aptitude tests are designed to test the suitability of candidates for these jobs. If a candidate is not even able to solve a simple logical or mathematical problem, would you like to give administration of a whole district in the hands of such a candidate? You yourself will say - "Even I can solve this problem better than this IAS officer? What a shame?". Won't you?

    Thanks,
