Dear if you are willing to become an IAS Officer then first of all you need to have following eligibility criteria

A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university and final year pursuing candidates are also eligible to apply for this exam

Age should not be less than 21 years and more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age as per government guidelines which is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC category candidates

Dear if you are pursuing 1st year of your bachelor's degree as engineering then you know that you have 3 years of complete time to prepare for this examination and if you will start your preparation from now then you will not face so many problems in the examination and may crack this exam easily

First of all you should go and find out any very good reputed coaching institute to prepare for this examination and not only one you should go to more than 3 coaching institutes and find out the best among all those then join that coaching institute without any hesitation and before that you need to see the background results of that coaching institute and what are the facilities available for the student and study then you should join that

Most of the coaching institutes gives not more than 6 hours for complete study everyday so that you should choose that batch in which you may easily adjust yourself means after the college and give not more than 2 hours everyday for that study to revise everything again and again

You should start running and join any good sports club because for that post you need to be physically and medically fit and active and you should make your physique before qualifying the examination so that give at least 1 hour everyday for your health and your body to be best for this post

If you keep your study continue in every situation then you may easily get qualified in the examination and you can be called for interview process and physical/medical test so that dear start working from now

HI,
You can apply IPS exam after B.tech as well as appearing in final year.IPS exam is conducted by UPSC.

Your age should be between 21-30 years.You must be Indian citizen as well as Physically fit.

You have to start preparation from now to crack IPS exam. you have to start collect all current affairs as well as GK.

Read newspaper daily and watch tv news daily.Share new thing others. Practice previous year question papers.

Manage your study time table including your preparation.

Always think positive and maintain your health.

IPS exam requires some specific physical standard.

see the exam pattern of civil services examination.. select your optional subjects according to your interest. Then deeply study them according to the syallabus prescribed, solve previous year question papers. for exam papers visit upsc.gov.in. Join a good coaching for civil services in your area and study hard.

You are doing engg
so you might be knowing the concept of both one night fight
but that doesn't work in ias
you need to follow these steps -

1)goal setting is your priority
choose which exam you ll give eg- ias ips
2)multi task management
you should be able to manage many things together
regular gk &English study is necessary
GK- daily English newspaper , any of national magazine
English - ----WREN & Martin------ is the best book
vocabulary should be improved
3)hard+smart+regular work is required
4)choose subjects for your mains exam
5)give revisions on weekends to whatever you ll read the whole week
6)first complete your preliminary exam preparation , till then work for only 2 hrs per week for
the mains exam
You are having much time with you
so try to follow these steps & clear the exam in the first attempt
work smart
