GATE and IES are 2 totally different exams with no links to each other.Infact their standard of questions also varies to a large extent.You do not need to appear for GATE as compulsory but if you do so,it will be kind of a practice for your IES.You can know well which areas you lack in preparation.Being a Civil engineer,you will have the highest number of vacancies through IES.It totally depends on you whether you want to do job or give time for IES.Working as Civil Engineer,it will be difficult for you to prepare for IES even if you are in the Design field.So better to think about your final goal and then proceed rather than listening to others.

No it is not necessary to clear GATE before IES you can directly apply for the exam ..............

And if you find good job after your graduation then you can go for it or you can give IES exam as after clearing it you will be handy with excellent chances.

You can apply for IES (Indian Engineering Service )exam after completing your Engineering

It is not necessary to get qualified in Gate exam.

For this exam candidate must be Engineering Degree from any recognized university.

Age should be between 21-30 years
