If you analyze the examination pattern and syllabus of Indian Civil Service Examination then you will find out a single subject that is most important for both prelims and mains examination and pattern of exam is following as :

Preliminary Examination : Following papers conducted under this test :

General Studies - 200 marks - Objective Type Questions

CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Objective Type Questions - 200 marks

Mains Examination : Following papers conducted under this test - Conventional Type

Paper I - Essay - 200 marks, English Language - 100 marks = 300 marks

Paper II - General Studies - 250 marks

Paper III - General Studies - 250 marks

Paper IV - General Studies - 250 marks

Paper V - General Studies - 250 marks

Paper VI - Optional Subject paper I - 250 marks

Paper VII - Optional Subject paper II - 250 marks

Here you may see that there will be five papers conducted in this selected process of ICS for General Studies Section so this will be considered the most important subject of this examination so I would like to request you to care more for General Studies section in this examination because if you once get the good command over this subject then you may easily score very good marks in Civil Service Mains examination and can be selected for any good post under IAS and second important subject comes - Optional Subject Paper means you have to choose any one subject from the list and that will have two papers in mains examination so I would request you to choose your interesting and relevant subject of bachelor's degree to score good marks in both of these papers then think about English Language and general issued for paper I of mains exam and concentrate more on CSAT test - Aptitude including various subjects as DI etc.

Every subject is its own importance.Never compare subject to subject.

It is nice that you want to join civil cervices,

To join,you must be passed a bachelor degree from a recognized university.

Age limit is 21-30 years. Age relaxation is given to reserved category students.

You must be Indian citizen and physically fit.

You have to choose your two optional subject. According to my view, you should those optional subject in which you have full interest o=i.e your stream subject related.

Importance of science subject is same as arts, commerce subject.

civil service exam consist General studies and GK.

Therefore you must aware these two which plays an important roles in civil services exam.

For it general awareness,general studies and general knowledge are very important subjects.

For more info visit www.upsc.gov.in and subjects with more marks are all important..

First you graduated subject is important part in CIVIL SERVICE.
After this you basic knowlegde is also important .
And GK and ENGLISH should be good in CIVIL SERVICE exam.
If you want to crack it.
