Re: When to start preparation for IAS exam? I am pursuing first year Engineering in information technology

As you are just in 1st year of engineering you have minimum 2year before getting into final year and thereby becoming eligible for Civil services. There is no fixed time of starting preparation as you must be knowing and it depends on individual skills. But the more time you give for preparation the better it would be.You can start slowly from now onwards and slowly gather up pace during next year.As you are from IT,you will not have your branch paper as any mains subject. So your graduation subject will be entirely different from your choice of subject for Civil services and for that you will definitely need much more time to prepare thoroughly.Do not enroll in any coaching class now and complete your preparation. Before 1year of applying you can go for coaching if you wish and do not overlook current affairs and leave them for the final year of preparation.Start preparing sooner rather than missing out on vital time as the pressure of engineering studies will also engulf you after 3rd year.

In order to start your preparation for the IAS Exam you should star it with the second year of engineering and you should give 2 years of your preparation to it

You can start your preparation either pre-final year or in the final year of your degree but you need to give your regular time to your preparation .Because It needs great effort and hard work to crack the exam..Once you start it then you need to skip everything else but not your preparation..

    Dear,
It will be better if you start your preparation from right now. Because, after complete of your B.Tech you can appear the examination easily. But you should keep in mind that the chances for attending the examination is only four for General, seven for OBC and upto 35 years of age for SC/ST candidates. To know more about it, please visit www.upsc.gov.in Thanks....

Best time to start preparation of IAS is 2nd year of graduation as you are good match up with graduation and have spare time for IAS as well.

you can select engineering subject for optional one. Mecahnical, electrical and civil are 3 option for suits you best as a engineering student.

Here i have attached IAS planner which gives all the answers to new comers for IAS.
