Attachment 12722 Generally 2 years of preparation is obvious for IAS. There are cases who cleared exam on 4th attempt also. but it also depends on person to person, when it comes to time needed for IAS step up. I have attached the detailed syllabus for the IAS examinations. it will surely be helpful to you for your reference. Prelims Exam generally happens in months of May to June (Except this year, its delayed due to some decisions in UPSC). and mains exam happens in month of August to September every year. After getting in IAS one will have 2 years of training at LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI NATIONAL ACADEMY OF ADMINISTRATION. and after that you will be on the job. Thank you. All the very best.

The exact time for competing IAS exam depends on a person's ability to comprehend and grasp concepts. You will have to judge yourself & see how long will you take to complete your preparation.
