Dear,
To be a custom officer, you have to appear the UPSC's CSAT examination. The UPSC conducts the CSAT examination in which you can give the option of IRS(Central Board of Excise & Customs), so that you can directly join as an Assistant commissioner of Customs department. It is highly prestigious job equal to IPS. Best of Luck.

You can join customs department by giving upsc civil service exam. You can join various services by qualifying this exam like ias, ips, ifs, irs(income tax), irs(central excise and customs),irts etc. If you want to join customs give your first preference irs(ce&c). You will join as a group a officer in customs department. Customs department is under central board of excise and customs. You will start as assisstant commissioner of customs.
