Hi Friend!

First, you need to know what is UPSC.

UPSC is Union Public Service Commission which conducts many exams in which Civil Service Exam(CSE) is one of them.

CSE has a misnomer as 'IAS exam' or 'UPSC exam'.

After clearing CSE, you'll be then recruited as IAS or IPS officers.

So You need to write only one exam whether to become IAS or IPS.

There are two phases in CSE.

They are

1)Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT) or Preliminary Exam

2) Civil Service Main Exam

Note: You must know that those who've qualified CSAT are only eligible for the Civil Service Main Exam.

Preliminary exam was conducted on 20-05-2012

Mains will be conducted on 05-10-2012

Dear Aspirant!

There is common entrance exam conducted for recruitment to IAS & IPS services which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission & known as "Civil Service Exam".

-To become an IAS or IPS, you need to crack this examination. To appear in this exam you should have completed bachelor degree course in any stream from recognized university or Final year in Bachelor degree program. Your age should be in between 21 to 30 years. Both male & female candidates appear in this exam.


Civil Service Exam has 3- stages...1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview

Number of attempts allowed for Civil Service Exam:

4 attempts for General category candidates.
7 attempts for Obc category candidates
14 attempts for SC/ST category candidates.

Date of issuing of application form: 04.02.2012

Last date of receipt of Application: 05.03.2012

Date of Preliminary Exam: 20.05.2012

Date of Main Exam: 15.10.2012

Paper II:

-- Date of notification for the exam is on 04th Feb 2012.
-- Last Date for submission of Application form is on 05th march 2012.
-- Date of Exam is on 20th may 2012

Civil Services Main Exam, 2012

Date of Commencement of Exam is on 05-10-2012.

--To become a IPS/IAS Officer , the candidate need to crack the Civil Service Examination.
--Civil Service examination can be divided into three stage :-

• Preliminary Exam

The CIVIL SERVICES EXAMS cover the posts of IAS and IPS.
The important dates for the exams this year are:
#8Th march,2012-last date for applying online for these exams.
#20th may,2012-preliminary exams will be held all across the country.
#The mains will be held in the month of October and November.
