Dear friend
maximum age limit for general category student is 30.
For OBC it is 33 and for SC/ST it is 35.
In 2013 civil service exam notification it is written that " he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1983 and not later than 1st August, 1992".So i think in 2014 civil service exam it will be 2nd August 1984.

So i think you can write next year civil service exam.

obc 21 to 33 years
sc and st 21 to 35 years

Hello,

As you have mentioned in the post that your age will be 30 years in 2014 , hence yes , you will be getting only one chance for IAS exam , because of your age if yo belong to General category .

As for General Category : age must be 21-30 years , not more than that . Whereas , if you belong to OBC : age has to be 21-33 years , and for SC/ST : 21-35 years .

There is also a limitation of attempts in this exam that is :

For General category : 4 attempts

For SC/ST : no attempts

For OBC : 7 attempts

the maximum age limit is different for the different categories, depending upon the reservation provided to the minorities.
The maximum age limit for the general category students is 30 years.
A relaxation of 3 and 5 years is given to the obc and the sc/st category respectively.
That makes
The maximum age limit for obc as 33 years and maximum age limit for sc/st candidates is 35 years

Educational qualifications required to appear in the UPSC Civil Services exams is Graduation Pass in any stream
So your educational qualifications ok to aply

Age- Minimum is 21 years for all the candidates
Maximum is 30 years for all the General category candidates
Candidates born between 2nd August, 1984 and not later than 1st August, 1993 can apply for the 2014 Prelims exams in the General category.
OBC candidates 3 years and SC/ST gets 5 years age relaxations on upper age limit


Next Prelims would be held in May 2014

So if you meet the above eligibilty than you should start preparing for the Prelims exams

For civil service exam every year millions of students can apply & try their luck but very few of them can beat the exam.
Eligibility required for the exam:
1.Educational qualification:- Graduation
2.Age:- Minimum 21 year & maximum 30 year
(The Upper age limit is relaxed for certain reserved categories & some others)

Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year for the recruitment of candidates for the post of IAS, IRS, IPS.
The age limit criteria for Civil Services Examination says that a candidate should not be more than 30 years of age.

The Age Limit Criteria for Civil Services Examination is as follows:
General 21-30 yrs
SC/ST 21-35 yrs
OBC 21-33 yrs
PH 21-40 yrs
