IPS comes under civil services. For that you give civil services examination.

Qualification Required :

Candidate should be passed his/her graduation from any recognized, and also can apply in last year of graduation.

No percentage is required if candidate just have passing marks in graduation then are eligible for civil services examination.

First of all prapare yourself for ips exam then apply for this exam.

To become an ips officer.

1)-you must be graduated from any recognised university.
)-60 percentage is required in graduation is required to appear
in ips exam.

Age limit is different for different casts candidates :-

1)- for general candidates age limit is 21-30.
2)- for obc candidates age limit is 21-33.
3)- for sc, st candidates age limit is 21-35.

Number of oppertunities for different candidates :-

1)- Only 4 oppertunities are available for general candidates .
2)- Only 7 oppeetunities are available for obc candidates.
3)- No limit for sc, st candidates

Dear pal,
To join the Indian Police service you need to appear for the UPSC exam.To make yourself eligible for the exam you need to have completed a bachelor degree.The degree course could be either three years or four years.So you can choose either engineering or arts course. you can also do MBBS too but the course duration is more.
So choose the profession in which you have your interest following which you can do prepare for the exam.
The exam includes two division
1.Aptitude
2.Main paper
The aptitude includes general questions and other stuffs.you need to appear in 9 main papers of which four are compulsory and remaining are optional which you can choose as per your wish.

for IPS you need graduation degree in any discipline from recognized college or university with any percentage. for IPS you have to write Civil Services Exam.the exam is conducted by UPSC every year.

for the exam your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. There is also available relaxation in upper age limit according to government norms as 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.


Civil Services exam is conducted in three phases and you have to clear all the phases to become an IPS officer.
The three phases are CSAT(Prelims), Mains and Interview

there is also applicable limit of number of attempts like 4 for General, 7 for OBC and there is no limit of number of attempts for SC/ST candidates.

Minimum Required Educational Qualifications for IPS Examination

Must posses a bachelor's degree in any subject of a recognized university/ institute or any other equivalent qualification of a recognized board or institute or university

Must not have attained the age of 30 years and minimum age should be 21 years to apply for this examination

If you belongs to reserved category then you may claim for upper age relaxation after crossing 30 years of age that will be provided to you as per government standards

5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for OWD and 5 years for Ex-Servicemen category candidates

Number of attempts allowed for this examination : General Category - 4 times, OBCs - 7 times, SC/ST/ESM has no limit to apply but only till 35 years of age

Selection Process for IPS Officer post under this recruitment :

Preliminary Test - Objective type test conducted only to find out suitable candidates for main examination.

2 papers, General Studies and CSAT for 400 marks and passing is obligatory

Main Examination - Conventional Type test that has 7 different papers and passing in all papers of this second process is also necessary

Personality Test - Personal Interview - 275 marks

Physical and Medical Standards Tests - Decided by the board of selection and different for male and female candidates, so you can understand that there will be four stages and getting through in all is mandatory then only you will become an IAS Officer so I would like to suggest you to prepare for preliminary examination first and when you get qualified then start working more over other stages of this examination and take guidance from any good coaching institute so you could easily understand everything about the strategy to qualify this test

Selection of IPS Officers is done through Civil Services Exam which is conducted by UPSC.
So if you wish to be an IPS Officer you will have to qualify Civil Services Exam by a good rank.

The essential eligibility conditions for Civil Services Exam are:

A degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
Also note that Candidates appearing at the degree examination also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions.
An age limit of 21-30 years (which is relaxed for reserved category applicants).
