Yes dear friend, you can give the NDA exam with commerce stream. With commerce you can give Nda but you can only qualify for Army. BEST OF LUCK.

Hello Friend,
National Defence Academy(NDA) entrance is conducted for recruiting eligible candidates to Indian armed forces such as Indian Army , Navy , Air force.

Educational Qualification required:
Candidates should have passed 12th standard or +2 examination from any recognized board/ university.

For Army:- +2 pass
For Navy / Air force:- +2 pass with Physics & Math


Only unmarried Male candidates between 16.5 to 19 year can apply for the exam.

Candidate who are applying for the exam should have Indian citizenship.


So, from the above discussion it is clear that the commerce students are only eligible to apply for Indian Army .

You are eligible to appear in NDA written examination but if you qualify you will be selected in army wing of National Defence Academy as 12th pass of 10+2 pattern is the minimum eligibility criteria irrespective of discipline you choose .But you are not eligible for joining Naval and Air Force Academy as the minimum educational qualifications for these are Physics and Mathematics as your subjects in the 12th .But since you are eligible for army wing so you must work smartly and crack NDA exam.

Yes you are eligible for nda exam but you are not eligible for airforce and
navy because airforce and navy want science background for various posts
You are eligible for army wing only.

Here is some good news for you , that your friends have got a wrong information from some wrong person
and your doubt is almost correct .

Yes , a commerce student of 10+2 level can 100% apply for the NDA ( National defence Academy ) examinations
conducted by the UPSC Government twice every year .

And also to apply for NDA Examination you need not to be from a Science stream and can be a
student of any stream chosen in your 10+2 level education .


But before you can apply for the NDA Examination you need to fulfill some of its major eligbility criterion's which are as follows -:

The Eligibility criteria for applying the NDA Examination are -:

1. You as a candidate must be a citizen of India or a type of refugee who had permanently settled in India .
2. You as a candidate must be an unmarried male candidate .
3. Your age must be between 16� to 19 years,i.e, You should have been born between 2nd July, 1994 and 1st January, 1997 .
4. If you have chosen to join the Army wing of National Defence Academy than you must be 12th Class pass or the 10+2
level Examination pass of School Education from an recognised institution or a CBSE Education board .
5. If you have chosen to join Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry
Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy than you should be 12th Class pass or the 10+2 level Examination pass
with Physics and Mathematics subjects of School Education from an recognised institution or a CBSE Education board .

yes, you can apply for NDA exam being a commerce student. but the thing is that you can only apply for Armt wing and you can't apply for Air Force or Navy. because for Air Force and Navy you need 12th with PCM(Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics).

NDA exam is conducted by UPSC every year twice in a year.

The exam contains three phases:
>>Written Exam
>>Interview
>>Medical Test

for NDA your age must be within 16.5 years to 19 years.

you must be Indian Citizen.

you must be unmarried men.

Dear actually there are three various academies under NDA examination and each requires different qualification to be eligible for examination and details are mentioned below

Indian Military Academy : Should have passed class 12th in any discipline from a recognized board

Indian Naval Academy : Must have completed class 12th with mathematics and physics as mandatory subjects from a recognized board

Indian Air Force Academy : Candidate should be passed both physics and mathematics at class 12th level from a recognized board

Your age should not be less than 16.5 years and more than 19 years and no relaxation in upper age will be provided to any category candidates as per government guidelines

Only unmarried male candidates are allowed to appear for this examination and selection process means female candidates can not apply for this examination

As you may see that there is a section that does not require for mathematics or physics as mandatory to be eligible and that is Indian Military Academy so you can apply for IMA section

Currently you are pursuing class 11th so you have two years to be eligible for this examination so at this stage, I would like to suggest you to start your preparation for NDA examination because 11th class is not very important as 12th so you may use this year for better preparation but also care for your study

You have to just distribute time for both NDA and 11th class exams and time table should be fixed and you should be strict to follow that on time then only you may prepare well for examination and start giving at least 2 hours everyday for preparation of NDA examination by using various books and mainly study in depth of the syllabus of class 11th and 12th because this will be asked in examination of NDA and that may be your stronger point to get the job

Examination Pattern for NDA : National Defense Academy

Mathematics - Objective type - 200 marks

General Ability Test : 300 marks - Objective type

Passing in both papers is mandatory so you have to work good and hard over all subjects. You can also prepare well by using your books of NCERT or CBSE of class XI and XII level and may qualify examination easily

Yes friend commerce student can apply for nda exam,but you are not eligible for all the three wings,as commerce student you are only eligible for army wing.if you want to join in indian navy or indian airforce then you should have maths in your 12th.
NDA EXAM ELIGIBILITY:student should have done intermediate from any recognised board.age limit is 16.5 to 19 years.

yes,
you can go for NDA exam even if having COMMERCE as your background.
but you can only apply for ARMY sector in NDA exam because AIRFORCE and NAVY need SCIENCE stream students.
requirements for NDA:
1.you should be unmarried.
2.age 16.5 - 19 years
3.INTERMEDIATE marksheet with 60% marks
or 12th appearing student can also appear in exam.

yes friend,you can join NDA even you are from non-science background.but the difference is you can apply for indian army.

as for indian navy and indian air force,you must have physics and maths as main subjects

where as for indian navy,any specialization

moreover you must satisfy other credentials like

age limit=16.5-19 years
mentally and physically fit and fine
eye sight=6/6 or 6/12 with or without glasses
unmarried male only

Dear Aspirant, according to your question, A 12th standard commerce student can apply for NDA written entrance examination.NDA(National Defence Academy)entrance examination is conducted by UPSC twice in a year.Commerce students' are eligible only Army wing of defence but a Science background student having the
subject physics/chemistry/mathematics can write NDA and is eligible for any wings of Indian defence job.
They can join toward Indian Army/Indian Navy/Indian Air Force.

So it is not mandatory but obvious without PCM subjects a candidate is not eligible for Navy/Air Force wing.

Dear AspirantYes a commerce student can apply.for.NDA.exam.but for Armyonly.because in army there is only +2 neede to apply.but for Air force and naval you must do +2 from science streamso you can apply for NDA if you possess following condition-must be citizen of.India-Age b/w 16.5-19 years-pass +2 with 60% marks.All The Best

Friend, please note that# Candidate who have passed 10+2 in any stream are fully eligible for the NDA Examination.# But candidate with Commerce stream or Arts stream or PCB stream in 10+2 are not eligible for joining Navy and Air Force.# Only those candidates are eligible for Navy and Air Force those who have done 10+2 in PCM stream.# There is no any bar of percentage marks required in 10+2.

You can definitely apply for NDA even if you are from commerce background.NDA eligibility requires one to be unmarried male with Intermediate pass with above 60% or in final year from any stream and within 16.5-19years.As you are from commerce you will be eligible for only ARMY. For Airforce or Naval Academy,you need to be from science stream and that also with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.You can apply for NDA but for Army only.All the best.
