    Dear Friend,

It is really possible to clear UPSC civil services examination in one attempt and that too without coaching.

    Stick to these rules:

    1. Plan your preparation well

    2. Study hard and consistently

    3. Have confidence in yourself

    4. Study right things and to the point

Your work will become easier if you have someone who have cracked this examination to guide you.

If you don't have able guidance then it will be very very difficult to crack this examination in one attempt and in that case I would suggest you to join some good coaching institute for preparation.

    All the best.
    Thank you.

Re: Can I crack UPSC Civil Services prelims exam in first attempt that too without taking coaching? Please give me tips and suggestions for preparation.

Dear this is absolutely clear that you can pass civil service preliminary examination without taking coaching classes and if your are purely dedicated only to study and grounding of examination the this will take not more than 10 months to get prepared extremely well before examination.

Before getting started, you should make a proper strategy to prepare for preliminary examination in which you have to complete all the required parts is - Collecting genuine syllabus of both papers, Study Material of each topic in detail, More than one book for each subject, Practice and Model question papers of separate subjects, shortlisting easy and tough topics on your own basis, Guidance of your colleagues/ teachers and other experts etc. then only you must begin your preparation with the name of GOD

Trust in yourself because sometimes what happens that candidates starts preparation and after knowing the depth syllabus and study, they gets frustrated and change the way so syllabus and notes are nothing in front of your efficiency so be confident, positive and optimistic to your preparation and do not worry about anything because everything is available easily and you do not need to go here and there for study materials

You can get the detailed and topic wise syllabus in official notification of UPSC Indian Civil Service Examination so note down or print that and write each topic in different blank page then you have to buy some books for all subjects so I have listed some very good books that are preferred by all civil service aspirants

Books for Paper I - General Studies - 200 Marks - Objective Type

Romila Thapar - Ancient History and Indian Culture
Bipin Chandra - Modern History of India
Gopal Krishna - Indian Modern History

NCERT Level X and XII Books for Physical Geography
School Atlas - Geography of the World in Graphs
Cotinho and Sharma - Commercial and Economic Geography of India
    Charles Farrow - World Geography
A Comprehensive Geography of India by Khullar

DD Basu - Indian Polity and Constitution
    Kashyap - Indian Constitution
NL Madan - Indian Political System

Mishra and Puri - Indian Economy
NCERT +1 and +2 Level Books for Indian Economy
Economic Survey of India - Every Year Published by Indian Government
Economic Times - Daily News Paper
Dutt and Sundaram - Economy of India

CSIR - Popular Series of Science
    Spectrum - Science and Technology
NCERT All Level Books for Science and Technology

Current Affairs - The Hindu Daily News Paper
    Civil Service Today
    Competition Wizard
    Frontline
    Yojna
    Kurukshetra
    Chronicle Magazine
    World Focus

India Year Book - 2013 by Indian Government

Books for Paper II - CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - 200 Marks - Objective Type

TATA Mc Graw Hill - CSAT Guide for IAS Preliminary Examination
Arihant Publication - IAS CSAT Preliminary Examination Book
RPH Editorial Board - Indian Civil Service Preliminary Examination Book for CSAT
Civil Service CSAT By Expert Compilations
Kalinjar Publication - CSAT for IAS Prelims
Disha Experts - IAS CSAT Full Study Guide
    NCERT Books for Quantitive Aptitude
RS Agrawal - Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability + Data Interpretation and Data Analysis
Wren and Martin or TMH - English Comprehension and Precis Guide for CSAT

Now we have got all the books that are required so let's start preparation for civil service examination 2014 that is possible to be held around May of 2014 and according to the May 2014 we should prepare and try to cover entire syllabus before February of 2014 because last three months should only be for revision and practice that will finalize our preparation so we have about 7 months to prepare for ICS Preliminary examination 2014 so try to study like we could easily get prepared

First of all select a single separate book for each subject and keep your detailed syllabus in that book but only for particular subject and do not keep another subject syllabus in that book as if you are preparing for Indian History then you should keep detailed syllabus of Indian History in that book so you will remember that which topics has been covered by you

Make a good time table and schedule of study and before that take a separate place where no noise at all and you do not get disturbed in your study and no one call you for any personal work and keep your social networking off while being prepared for examination. Your schedule should be as you could easily manage your study and all subjects. Try to wake up early in morning and that is before 5 am everyday so you will get freshness and get free from all call of natures and start study right there at your study place

Choose a easy subject that is very interesting for you because starting from easy subject will make you perfect for tough one so you should begin with the subject according to your choice and give about 2 hours everyday only for that subject as you may start with Science and Technology etc. whatever you want

After two hours you should take a break of about 10 minutes from your preparation then get other book of another subject that is also easy at your level as - Indian History and Culture and give the same time for History too and that would be around 10 am you have to take a long break there you have to get free from all your work and make yourself fresh for further study and preparation

If there is any coaching or college or any other course is being pursued by you then you may go there and complete that otherwise do not waste your time and read news paper - The Hindu/ Economic Times and when you read then you should note down all the major topics that may be important for you. Watch some news channels for information about India and the World so you could complete your current affairs section and till 4 PM you can complete your entire current affairs with breaks

When you see it is sharp 4 PM then you must begin your preparation and take a different subject means do not study that subject which you have already completed in morning as you can give time for CSAT - Reasoning/ Aptitude/ English Comprehension etc. and according to the instructions give at least 3 hours everyday in evening for CSAT.

After 7 PM you have to take a break and come at your revision of that subject which you have completed in morning and mid of the day and finally give about 2 hours only for revision of your entire study because revision is the only way to make good proficiency in all subjects and whatever you study for CSAT in evening, you should revise that everyday in the mid of the day while preparing for Current Affairs

Give enough time for yourself also means if possible then go for sports and keep yourself fit and active for all time so your mind and body will work according to your instructions and sharpness will come in your mind for all subjects so fitness is also necessary and that may also be earned by food and daily diet so control over everything to keep yourself well for future challenges

Whenever you go for some work, you should try to avoid wasting of your time, meet only friends who are also competitive aspirants and participating in various competitive exams, share experience and your thoughts with them and if anything possible then learn something from your friends because you have 24 hours a day so if you give 8 hours for sleep and rest, 4 - 6 hours for everyday activities including fitness and personal work then also you have 10 hours that may be highly useful for you to prepare for examination so management of the time will show that how careful you are for preparation of this examination so management is also a skill that should be in a civil service aspirant.

Do not study after 10 PM everyday and go for rest and take a long rest, try to wake up early in the morning and follow the same process everyday but you may change your schedule of study of subjects as you are completing GS in Morning so that may be shifted to Evening, Current Affairs may be completed in Morning and CSAT in Mid of the Day so you can make it as you want comfortable and adjustable

After about 6 months of preparation you should buy some books for practice and get model papers in those books because practice is mandatory before appearing for examination and you may buy - Arihant Publication, Upkar Publication, Disha Publication, Sachchidananda Sinha Practice Work Book for IAS examination (Preliminary) and you will get some model question papers but before that visit at www.upsc.gov.in and collect some previous years question papers and complete them to check your efficiency that what you have prepared for examination

You will get more than 50 model practice tests in each book and must buy at least 4 practice test books to be expert in all subjects and check your level of study then stop reading and remember that you have to make a revision everyday for about 5 hours and other 5 hours should be given to practice in solving model question papers,. Try to solve at least 2 model practice tests everyday in which one should be of General Studies and one of CSAT so your command on all subjects will be continue. If your see anything new in the syllabus then you can write that and make solution and also take the help of solutions given in the book so everything will be prepared and using of various publication books will give you different type of question pattern that are necessary for you in clearing all doubts. Time is also very important in practice because you will get only two hours in paper of prelims so you have to make your practice as you could solve more than 80% questions in examination before completing two hours

If possible then do not hesitate to register for online/offline practice test facility in any good and trusted coaching institute because you have completed study and going there only for practice because model and practice test of coaching institutes are prepared by experts and experienced faculties who have passed in previous exams so you have to follow them and check your level with other participants and if you see yourself enough prepared then you should give more time because examination time will come near and all candidates will start giving more than 12 hours everyday so you also have to give the same time with concentration and if you follow above mentioned strategy and time table then your selection in preliminary examination is sure

When yo go to appear for examination, then you should believe in yourself and remember that GOD helps all honest people so you also are purely honest in preparation and be confident to all answers that you know in examination. Try to manage the time as I have instructed you before and give exam and be positive to your result and you will get more than passing marks in examination

    All the best

Re: Can I crack UPSC Civil Services prelims exam in first attempt that too without taking coaching? Please give me tips and suggestions for preparation.

    hi

yes its possible to clear the civil service exam with single attempt.its possible only when you had planned and follow as per to it with full dedication.

coming towards coaching classes, you can or need not to join, you know about yourself where you are lacking and how must you can absorb the concept and theory part.

so if face difficulty then you can join or if you think that you can do then you can do self study.

now in this present situation to get an post or admission one had to face the written exam,no doubt many of them trying hard to get the same post you are applying.right.

you had to try more and remember you had to value each single seconds.

instead of mugging better to go with the concept and understanding the topics.

    practice the model papers.

once you finished the portions then you must do the revision

when there is lack of time,do not try for new unit.better to revise.

"your input is must to get the output results".right

    good luck

    thank you
