yes my friend you are eligible for giving the IAS exam as you are a qualified candidate for giving the exam. The eligibility for giving the exam is that you need to be a graduate n any stream from a recognized indian university and your age should be in between 21-30 years if you belong to the general category.
If you belong to the obc category then you have the age limit as 21-33 years whereas for the sc/st category students you the age limit is 21-35 years

Well after completing Marine Engineering you can write IAS or IPS exams.

IAS (Indian Administrative Service) and IPS (Indian Police Service) are the civil service exams conducted by UPSC.

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Comission)

The eligible criteria for writing this exams are

�� You should complete your graduation.

�� You must be an Indian citizen

�� Your age must lie between 21 - 30 years

Age relaxation :

OBC - 3 years

ST & SC - 5 years

�� Number of permissible attempt:

General Caste - 4

OBC - 7

ST & SC - No limit.


There are three levels for these exams

+ Preliminary

+ Mains and

+ Personnel Interview.

Yes why not? I do not think you should have any doubt regarding this.

To become either an IAS or IPS officer you just need graduation in any stream. No specific subject specialization is needed.

So you are free to choose any stream of your interest.

If you want to do marine Engineering after class 12th then its well and good.

After you complete your graduation in marine engineering you become eligible for the Civil service exams.

The exam is conducted by UPSC.

For both IAS and IPS officer you will have to sit for civil services exam only. So no separate preparation is needed for any of them.

So you need not worry in this regard instead focus on its preparation of exam.

You can appear for civil services exam during your last year exam.

Also if you do not want to make an attempt during your graduation then you can sit for the exam after you finish up with your graduation as without good preparation you can not bear to waste your attempt as attempts are limited in civil services exam.

general- 4

obc- 7

sc/st- unlimited no. of attempts

There is no specific percentage described in eligibility norms, just being passed in your exams would be much enough.

Your age should be between 21 to 30 yrs if you belong to general category.

21 to 33 yrs for OBC.

21 to 35 yrs for SC/ST.

21 to 40 yrs for PH category.

it is good to see that you are fully concentrated towards your goal. for IAS or IPS you have to write Civil Services exam that is conducted by UPSC every year. for Civil Services you need graduation degree in any discipline with any percentage.
so you don't have to worry about subjects. you can do graduation in marine engineering.

for Civil Services your age should be within 21 years to 30 years and there is relaxation upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

in Civil Services exam there is huge competition. you can start preparation for the exam from now. you need to concentrate on general studies and also clear your basic concepts of your subjects.

If you want to become an IAS or IPS you need not study so hard subjects.... But if you have passion in that subject there is no restriction because for becoming an IAS or IPS officer the minimum qualification is a bachelor degree in any government approved college. So choose your subject wisely so that you can prepare for UPSC from first year of college itself....

as you know IAS /IPS is considered as the most prestigious jobs in India and that why every graduate have a desire to be

an IAS/IPS officer .

Here as you are a marine engineering degree holder so you are definitely eligible according to the the educational qualification

requirements . but only having education requirements for the examination is not enough for the same.

you ave to fulfill all the other requirements as given below:

1. you must be am Indian.

2. you must be a graduate with a university recognized by govt.


age criteria:-

1. the candidate age must be in between 21-30 years.


age relaxation:-


* the age relaxations are provided to sc/st category and obc category candidates.

there are also an age relaxation is given to the central govt. employees( ex-serviceman) and to the physically handicapped persons of

if you really wanna become ias or IPS officer then don't worry .
You have to first complete you graduation with 60% min. marks.
Then you can apply for this exam.
You said you from marine engineering then don't worry you have to select two subject from the UPSC subject list.
Then you can apply easily for this exam.

Dear aspirant when you already know that to be eligible for IAS/IPS Officer examination, any graduates can apply means any bachelor's degree or graduation is accepted then why are you worrying about your future degree course on Marine Engineering means you should be free from all tensions and just begin your preparation for IAS examination because there is no hurdle in applying for Indian Civil Service Examination after completing graduation in Marine Engineering and if you want to keep this subject alternative then also you are eligible to appear for UPSC IAS examination

Your age also should not be more than 30 years and minimum required age is 21 years so first of all you should complete 21 years of age and above mentioned qualification because you are the student of class 12th and it will take 3 years to be eligible for IAS examination but if you take admission in degree while the current batch of universities - 2013-14 as first year then you will be eligible while pursuing final year and your one year will be saved but you also have to care that do not hurry because hurry spoils curry so first you should complete your all basic knowledge about this exam and concentrate more over academics because that are most important
