Re: Is knowledge on Current Affairs essential for UPSC prelims?

    Hi
I would like to clarify the fact that general knowledge and the current affairs is the only key to success in the civil services examination conducted by the upsc.
Therefore it is very strongly recommended that you should be having a very good command on the current affairs of the country as well as of the globe.
You need to be very sound and should have an indepth knowledge of the national and international events, and the reasons for why they are happening. For this you should consult the newspaper The Hindu. It is highly recommended for the civil services preparation.
    Gud luck

Re: Is knowledge on Current Affairs essential for UPSC prelims?

Dear I am sorry to say but you have really got a wrong information from any source because current affairs is the only section that is being so much important and popular in various competitive exams - IBPS Banking Exams, SSC, Railways, Insurance etc. exams and with these, it has been so important for various UPSC exams because this is my personal experience that I appeared for CDS I 2013 and got more than 20 questions from the current affairs section in General Knowledge paper and current affairs was asked of about 1 year before of examination that is why I request you that you do not leave this portion and cover with your other studies because highlighted issues covers majority in current affairs so this is your duty that you do not leave anything and get official information

Take some previous years question papers of IAS examination and you will definitely find out more than 10 questions from current affairs section in GS paper and each number if important for us and this is the better source to increase score in examination and get more than required

For current affairs, you should read news papers everyday and you can prefer - The Hindu, Economic Times etc. and get more detailed knowledge and buy some necessary magazines which are highly useful for current affairs - Civil Service Times/ Chronicle/ Competitive Wizard/ Frontline/ Yojna/ Kurukshetra/ India Year book and read regularly and make personal notes from papers and magazines and revision will be the best way to learn more about current affairs section

    All the best
