IPS(Indian Police Services) or IAS(Indian Administration Services) are the posts which you can get through UPSC Civil Services Exam that is conducted once every year. So it is clear that you can only apply once every year for the Civil Services Exam. and remember that there is also limit of number of attempts.

Civil Services exam constitutes three parts:
    1. CSAT(Prelims)
    2. Mains
    3. Interview

    Eligibility Criteria For Civil Services:

    >>you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation.
    >>your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam. there is relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

    Limit Number Of Attempts:
    >>General: 4 attempts
    >>OBC: 7 attempts
    >>SC/ST: No Limit

UPSC also provide the facility to apply for the exam online on following official link of UPSC:

Re: How many times in a year can we give IPS or IAS exam?

You can give only once as the prelims exam will start by May month of every year and mains exam will start by November or December of every year.
Candidates those are eligible can appear for prelims and those who are passed in prelims can appear for mains after which comes personal interview...
After that is recruitment if your are selected in all three levels...

Re: How many times in a year can we give IPS or IAS exam?

Friend, Please note that UPSC conducts IAS/IPS Examination only once in a year. So you can apply only once for IAS/IPS Examination within a year. But NDA Examination and CDS Examination are conducted twice in a year.UPSC set a fixed number of attempts for each and every category separetely in his/her entire life period. The number of attempts are as follows: # General category availed four attempts. # OBC category availed seven attempts. # Scheduled Caste category availed unlimited number of attempts. # Scheduled Tribe category availed unlimited number of attempts.

Re: How many times in a year can we give IPS or IAS exam?

    Dear friend,

Whether you want to go into IAS or IPS you will have to appear for an entrance exam known as
    civil services exam.

This exam is conducted by UPSC which stands for Union Public Service Commission.

    It conducts various government exams.
Likewise It also conducts Civil services exam and this is conducted only once in a year.

So friend you can give this exam only one time in a year.
So you need to really work hard for the exam if you really aspire to be an IAS or IPS officer.

Secondly the number of attempts is also limited which also makes you to really prepare honestly for the exam so that you can clear it in your given attempts.

Here below I am providing ypou with number of attempts for the exam category wise:-

    general- 4 attempts
    Obc- 7 attempts
    SC/St- unlimited no. of attempts

as you can see that number of attempts is limited and also you have only one chance in a year to appear for the exam so you need to put all for efforts for the exam.

    Pattern of exam:

    1. Prelims which contains objective type questions

    It consists of 2 papers:

    General aptitude
    general studies

    2. Mains with subjective type questions

    3. interview
