Re: What are the exact changes in the pattern of UPSC Civil Services Exam?

    hi friend,

This year the changes have taken place in the mains pattern only and not in the prelims pattern. As you alraedy know the prelims pattern had been changed in the year 2011.

prelims paper as usual has two papers namely the general studies and aptitude paper.

for mains the following are the changes.

earlier there used to be two optional papers but now you have to prepare for only one optional paper.

the general studies paper which was previously consisted of only two papers now have been converted in to 4 papers.so general studies paper has paper II,paper III,paper IV,paper V.

the essay, english papers remain the same.so now the more focus is on the general studies paper and not on the optional papers.

now almost a level playing field was established for all aspirants on equal footing.

as far as the marks are concerned, now the marks of each paper is reduced from 300 to 250 and for personality test it is 275 marks.

so no change in prelims but some changes in mains.

for more details see the commissions website and the detailed notification in the employment newspaper.

    Dear Friend!

There will be no changes in the Examination pattern of Preliminary Examination (admission to Mains examination) as of now.

Examination patten is same as previous patten which consists of :

    1.Preliminary Examination = Objective type ,2 papers
2.Mains examination = Essay type , total 9 papers including 2 optional Subjects.
    3.Finally , Interview.

These syllabus based on the CSAT-2013 only

Dear following changes has been done in the examination pattern for UPSC Civil Service Exam and we may say that there is no change in preliminary examination but you should read everything and examination will be conducted of both prelims and mains that means there will be two stages

Preliminary Examination - Objective type test comprise of two papers that contains 400 marks

    Paper I - General Studies - 200 Marks

Paper II - CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - 200 Marks

Passing will be necessary in preliminary examination then you will be treated eligible for main examination

Main Examination - This section examination contains 7 different conventional type papers and qualifying in each paper of main exam is compulsory and papers are following

Paper I - It covers of two sections - Section I comprise of Essay Writing that has 200 marks and Section II consist of English Language - Comprehension and Precis for 100 marks and total marks = 300

Paper II, III, IV & V will be based on different part of General Studies - I, II, III & V means the paper will be named with general studies but questions will be asked for various parts of GS where you have to pass all these papers too and all these papers contains - 1000 marks means 250 marks for each

Paper VI and VII - Optional Subject and you will be allowed to choose anyone optional subject from the list provided by the board and there is no change in optional subjects that means all the subjects in the list are same which were before in the previous year notification and list can be seen in official notification. Both of these papers carries 500 marks means 250 for each

Personality Test - 275 marks when it was of 300 marks in last year's recruitment of civil service exam so must know that passing in all the papers of main exam is necessary then only you will be called for interview process by the board and that contains 275 marks and if you pass this stage too and scores enough then you will be posted as IAS Officer but score of main examination will be highly responsible for you to get the job

You should really not worry about the selection of the subject or anything because there will be only seven papers where two papers based on your selected subject, four on GS and one on Essay and Comprehension of English language so you just need to give separate time for all sections to get prepared well before examination

More details about this test can be assorted by downloading this attached notification given by UPSC board and also visit at www.upsc.gov.in
