It has 3 stages. 1)Preliminary exam 2)Main exam 3)Interview Preliminary exam:- This exam has 2 papers. Main examination:- This exam consists of 9 papers. Interview:- After qualifying in these 2 phases , you are called for interview.

There are only three stage, but this stages are likely to climb the mountain because of that kind of job this is something extraordinary, So the kind of pressure of UPSC has taken to choose the cream personnel of this society for this job. These three stages are namely: Stage I: Preliminary examination - This is qualifying test held in May/ June every year. Notification for this is published in December/January. Results are published in the first half of August. on this the competitor are to appear for two paper each contain 200 marks. Stage II: Main examination - This is the main test, held in October/ November every year. Results are usually published in the second week of March. It carries 9 paper total 2600 marks. Stage III: Personality Test (Interview) - It is the final test and is held in April/May every year. Final results are usually announced a few days before the next preliminary examination. It carries 300 marks. Best of luck.

DEAR CANDIDATE; IAS means Indian Administrative Services and is basically meant for those aspiring candidates who have strong dedication towards the country. India holds a UPSC examination every year and on the basis of this examination a number of IAS officers are recruitment. Eligibility Criteria :- The minimum qualification required for appearing the competitive examination is Graduation. Many professionals like Engineers, Doctors, persons with Ph.d qualifications are competing for UPSC. Application forms will come out in the month of January. Paper pattern has changed in IAS 2011 exam. Paper Pattern for IAS 2011 exam :- Unlike present,now there are two objective type papers carrying equal marks, in which 1) General-Studies paper carries 150 marks 2) Optional paper carries 150 marks. The Preliminary exam consists of two papers of objective type questions. General studies (150 marks) and one of optional subject (300 marks) The optional subjects consists of 23 subjects like agriculture, mathematics, mechanical engineering, medical science, philosophy, psychology, political science, commerce, economics, electrical engineering etc details you can find in this link http://www.upsc.gov.in/general/civil.htm After that UPSC Mains exam will conduct in October-November. There is 9 papers in upsc mains, paper: 1 is Indian Language of 18 Languages (300 marks), 2 is [FONT=Arial]English (Qualifying Paper)(300 marks), 3 is essay (200 marks), 4 and 5 is [/FONT][FONT=Arial]General Studies (300 Marks for each paper) (600 marks), 6,7,8 and 9 is any two subjects (each having 2 papers) selected from Optional Subjects (2000 marks) The interview test consists of 300 marks Grand total 2300 marks.
