Hi Aspirant,

Friend you didn�t mention that which exam of UPSC you are going to clear.

UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission.

It is a Central government body which organizes many competitive exam for various posts.

I assume that you are talking about Civil Service Exam.

Civil Service Exam is the very tough exam of India.

If you qualify the Civil service exam you can be appointed at following posts:

IAS (Indian Administrative Service)

IPS (Indian Police Service)

IRS (Indian Revenue Service)


You will get above post according to your rank in Civil exam.

You have not mentioned which UPSC exams ?????

-Supposing that you are talking about the UPSC Civil Services exams
the post you will get after clearing it,will depend on the Final Merit List
prepared by the UPSC and your rank in the merit list.

-UPSC gives its toppers the option to select amongst
Indian administrative services(IAS),Indian Police services(IPS)
and Indian Forest services (IFS)

-Generally speaking toppers get the option to be IAS but if they
wish they can choose from IFS & IPS also.

-IF a candidates rank is less in the merit list he /she may get IFS
but if their rank is high they are preffered for IAS.

UPSC Conducts different exams for recruitment of different official posts in various government departments.
So the post you will get after clearing the UPSC Exams depends upon the Exam you appear for and your rank.

For your knowledge, let me tell you that UPSC Conducts following Exams:

#National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination
#Engineering Services Examination
#Civil Services Examination
#Indian Forest Service Examination
#Special Class Railway Apprentices Exam
#Central Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination
#Indian Economic/Indian Statistical Service Examination
#Geologists' Examination
#Section Officers'/ Stenographers' (Grade `B'/Grade I) Limited Departmental Competitive Examination

As I have told you that these Exams are for recruitment in different departments so they have different eligibility conditions and different Job prospects.

For Example the civil services Exam is for recruitment of IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS officers which have different roles in administration.
Similarly CMS Exam is for recruitment of medical officers and CDS and NDA/NA is for recruitment in Defence sector......
