Scoring of any subject depends on your preparation & grip on the subject.
If you are so confused I will suggest you to go through Books on anthropology, sociology & public administration from any library.
Since you are interested in science I'll suggest you to continue with it.
You can choose Civil/Mechanical/Electrical as these are available as optional subjects.
As for Maths you need to go through thoroughly your NCERT of 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th.
For GK read newspaper daily & get monthly magazines of competition success for current affairs as well as practice papers of UPSC are also available.

For recommended books of UPSC visit http://www.upscportal.com/civilservices/order-books
You can get previous years question papers of UPSC exams from http://www.upsc.gov.in/questionpaper/

    dear friend,

To become an IAS officer you have to appear in Civil Services Exam that is conducted by UPSC every year.
For Civil Services Geography, Indian History and Public Administration subjects are considered scoring and easy to crack subjects.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    1. Graduation in any discipline
    2. Age Limit:
    • general: 21 to 30 years
    • OBC: 21 to 33 years
    • SC/ST: 21 to 35 years.

For increasing knowledge of mathematics and GK you can follow "Indiabix.com"
also for mathematics study 6 to 12 NCERT books of Mathematics.

    Good Luck........

My aim is to become an IAS officer. Which bachelors degree should I choose after 12th (Science)? How to improve my knowledge in General Knowledge, Mathematics?

I have right now completed my 12th intermediate(science) and my aim is to become an I.A.S officer, i don't know what subject should i choose for my bachelor's degree i get good marks in science and have grip in science and arts.it is said everywhere that anthropology, sociology, public administration are good scoring subjects in UPSC.so now i am in a state of confusion that should i drop science n take arts and if that is the case what subject should i choose.
They changed the prelims pattern this year.i am worried about mathematics b'coz when i was in my 9th standard i had the option to drop maths.I also have to brush up my G.K on current affairs etc.I have good knowledge on what i studied now though i lack the basics. What syllabus is UPSC based on and what book, papers should i refer to increase my g.k; and do i have the scope to do so.
