the Research and analysis wing is foreign intelligence agency of India. It has become an effective instrument of indian national power, implementing the espionage activities on key elements in Pakistan and other countries from where there is a real and continuous threat for the nation. It has enjoyed the backing of successive Indian govt. in its efforts. THe activities of RAW and even its members are not known outside, not even to the parliament. RAW comes under the direct supervision of prime minister and there is a director who reports prime minister regularly on the various activities undertaken.
the objectives of RAW :
1) to monitor the political and military developments of neighbouring countries, which have a direct implication on the security of our country
2) to seek the control and limitation of supply of military hardware to pakistan from other European countries

To join RAW:
UPSC does not recruit any candidates for RAW. But there is direct recruitment of DEputy field officers (DFO ),field officers (FO ) and senior field officers.
field officers ( equivalent to Inspector), senior field officers ( equivalent to DSP) are given foreign postings. IPS officers may be inducted into RAW based on their performance, but no surity. refer sarkarinaukri.com website for direct recruitment notification
