Re: Is my decision right to take mathematics as an optional subject for UPSC mains exam? First of all congratulation for passing the Preliminary exam . As you are a electric engineer so that you took electric engineering as one of the optional subject . As you have interest in Maths so that you should carry on Maths as your optional subject . You learnt the maths in your engineering so that you aware most of the concept related to maths . You should need much practices on this subject because you studied all the maths . And if you select other subject than you should give more time on that subject . You also see the previous year question papers for the Maths so that you should know the exam pattern , type of questions etc . So if you have confidence in maths then carry on that subject . good luck
Re: Is my decision right to take mathematics as an optional subject for UPSC mains exam? MATHEMATICS is indeed a a very tough subjects for the upsc civil services examination. but if you are fully determined to take this subject as one of the subject for the MAINS EXAMINATION then don't worry this will be the choice for the examination. and in my suggestion you should take some easier subject as the other option for this mains examination. that can be history or geography. these subjects are really interesting subjects and are considered to be very scoring for this examination. apart from that these subjects will give you sufficient time for your preparation for the mathematics .

Dear, For UPSC's Civil Services Exams are not tough but its too competitive. You can miss the train just for a point. So, its totally depends on you. while Math is a scoring subject. But you have to learn in depth. but don't waste time on a single topic. Just clear your concept. You must be confident about it.
