yes there is a limit of attempts for general and obc categories.
for ies examination general candidate gets 4 attempts and the age limit is 21 to 30 years.
for civil services examination general candidate gets 4 attempts and the age limit is 21 to 30 years.

you can have maximum of 4 attempts...... General and OC can attempt max of 4 times....

UPSC conducts both exams which are Civil Services Examination and Indian Engineering Services Examination.

Number Of Attempts For Both Exams :

General Category : 21-30 years
BC Category : 21-33 years
SC/ST Category : 21-35 years

Other Requirements :

For civil services examination candidate must be passed his/her graduation from any recognized university and also can apply in last year of graduation.

For Indian Engineering Services Examination candidate must be passed his/her graduation in engineering. And also can apply in last year of graduation.

Candidate must be citizen of India.

Candidate must be under 21-30 years. 3 years of age relaxation for BC candidates and 5 years of age relaxation for SC/ST candidates.

In Civil Service exam number of attempts for general category is limited to four.But there is no limitation on the number of attempts in Engineering Service exam.

Age limit is there in both case.

Age limit for IAS and IES for general category is 21-30.

- Yes, there are attempt limits in IES and IAS exam.

- In both exams general candidate can sit only 4-4 times in each exam.

- BC candidate can sit 7-7 times in both exams.

- No bar for SC/ST candidates.

- Apart from these attempts they can only sit if they are in this age criteria:

1. General: 21-30 years.

2. BC: 21-33 years.

3. SC/ST: 21-35 years.

- Educational qualification for IES exam: candidate should be engineering graduate with Mechanical OR
Civil OR
Electrical OR
Electronics & Telecommunication subject.

- Educational qualification required for IAS exam: graduation in any stream.

Yes there is limit on the number of times you can attempt the exam and it as follows:

1.For general attempts are 4....age 21-30 yrs

2.For obc attempts are 7...age 21-33 yrs

There are no restrictions upon a General Candidate in appearing the INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES exams provided he meets the other eligibility requirements,but the number of attempts are limited in case of the CIVIL SERVICE exams conducted by the UPSC.

Yes friend, UPSC confined the number of attempts for UPSC Civil Service exam and Indian Engineering Service exam.

Limit of attempt vary as per reserve category.


Number of attempts

4 attempts for General Candidates

7 attempts for OBC candidates

No limit for SC/ST candidates




A general Candidate can attempt only 4 times for CSE and IES exam.

In such condition candidates should have good preparation and highly confident and after that should be appear in CSE and IES exam.

Don�t waste your attempts.

First prepare two or three years, give the exam.

There is no restriction on number of attempts for attending UPSC engineering examination provided he satisfies other eligibility criteria like
* AGE:21 to 30 for general candidate. Relaxation : SC/ST:5years, OBC: 3 years
*NATIONALITY: Indian or subject of Nepal or Bhutan or Tibetan refugee settled permanently in India before 1962.
*EDUCATION: A technical degree,from a recognized university in any of the four subjects-Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering,Electrical Engineering or Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.

But there is restriction on number of attempts for UPSC Civil Service Examination.
*General candidates: four attempts.
*Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction.
*Other Backward Classes: seven attempts.

Yes their is number of attempts to write the upsc exam

As the number of attempts is different for the different category candidate

As the number of attempts allowed for the general is 4

And the number of attempts allow for the obc is 7

And the number of attempts allow for the sc.st is unlimited

And as you are a general candidate

So you can give the exam 4 times

There is no restriction on the number of attempts on any category in INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES examination.

for UPSC I have shorted all details & criteria along with number of attempts for various categories

UPSC can conducts the civil services examsfor( IAS,IPS) also conducts CMS,IES,CPF,CDS,IFS etc......
UPSC takes these exams every year.

IAS,IPS,IES,IFS exams can be conducts in 2 stages namely

Preliminary exam
Main examination.

After completion of preliminary exam you are eligible for Main examination.

After clearing the main examination you will be called for final interview.

Preliminary examination should consist of 2 papers.Which is conducted on objective type only.

Main examination should consist of 9 papers,it is a descriptive exam.

Eligiblity:


Education qualifications;

You have to pass your graduation in any recognized university.
Age qualifications:

Your age should in between 21-30 years.
Upper age limit will be applicable for ST/SC/OBC candidates.

No.of Permissible attempts:

4 for General candidates.7 for OBC
No limit for SC/ST's.

Nationality:Indian.

You must be physically fit as per rules.

Yes there is an limit of attempts for civil services exam but no limit on attempts for the engineering services exam.
Number of attempts-
For Civil Service Examination - General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST- No restriction
For IFS Examination- General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST-No restriction
There is no restriction on number of attempts in any other Examination conducted by UPSC .

NO. OF ATTEMPTS FOR THE UPSC EXAMINATION IS Civil Service Examination - General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST- No restriction i.e. IF YOU ARE COMING IN GENERAL CATEGORY THEN YOU HAVE TO ATTEMPT 4 TIMES UPSC EXAM.

AND IF YOU ARE COMING IN OBC CANDIDATE THEN YOU CAN ATTEMPT UPSC EXAM 7 TIMES.

AND IF YOU ARE COMING IN ST/SC CANDIDATE THEN YOU HAVE TO RESTRICTION IN EXAM i.e. YOU CAN ATTEMPT UPSC MANY TIMES WHEN YOU WANT.
