1.Master�s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology; or
2.Master�s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only), or
3.Master�s degree in Hydrogeology (for posts in central ground water board only) from a recognized university;
4.Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
5.Age : A candidate age should be below 32 years as on mentioned date in Advt.

you can refer the following books. You cannot crack UPSC/ONGC exam just by reading 2 or 3 books. the syllabus is exhaustive and you have to look out for the best books for each topic. The following book may help you
1) GEology and evolution of Indian plate by Naqvi
2) Himalaya- Geological aspects-Vol 1 & 2 by saklani
3) of THis list is not comprehensive.
4) Marine geology- T.K.Malik
5) textbook of geology- P.k Mukerjee
6) GEology an Introduction-kronaris and krambine

Some topics will be good in some books. So dont restrict yourself within this book list.
Also study basics of geology in any NCERT book to understand fundamentals better.
