Re: I am preparing for both UPSC IES and GATE exam simultaneously. Will this work out?

    Hello Friend !!

Yes, this concept will definitely work because the syllabus for both the examinations is almost same.

IES is nothing but Indian Engineering Services.

And GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers.

Both are for the Engineering aspirants, that means both contains the same content of syllabus.

Stress more on your core subjects which has more weight-age in these examinations.

And also concentrate on Aptitude topics and comprehensive topics.

Though they are for less marks in the exam, they can be answered in seconds if known.

IES is applicable only for :

    Civil Engineering
    Mechanical Engineering
    Electrical Engineering
    Electronics & telecommunication Engineering

Where GATE is for all the branches of Engineering.

IES is conducted by IES and GATE is conducted by IIT's.

    Structure of IES :

The IES paper is divided into two sections.

The candidates have to qualify in the written examination followed by a Personality test.

The written examination is again divided into three parts.

i.The first part is the general ability test.
The duration of this paper is 120 minutes. It carries 200 marks.
ii.The second part will be a paper on Relevant Trade.
It consists of two papers. The duration of each paper is 60 minutes. It carries 200 marks each.
iii.The third one is the conventional paper having two parts. It again carries 200 marks.

The duration for each paper is 180 minutes. The total marks allotted for the above section is 1000.

Those who qualify in the written test will be called for a personal interview. This interview carries 200 marks.

    About GATE Paper :

    Mathematics will carry 15 % ,

The General Aptitude section will carry 15 % and

The remaining 70 % marks is devoted to the subject of the paper.

    Good Luck !!

GOD HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES
    - Nothing is Impossible
    - If you are determined & confident to clear IES & GATE simultaneously then you do it.
    - Both the exams require good knowledge of your subject.
    - But for IES you also need to prepare for General studies & English along with your Engineering subjects.
    - Refer some standard books.
    - Start preparation at very early stage.

I have attached the details of both the exams.
Go through the syllabus of both the exams thoroughly before taking any decision.
Remember you need a lot of hard work & determination to crack both the exams.

    All the best!
