Re: Is It right that the UPSC prelims and Mains both will have CSAT pattern, means no any Optional Subject will be Considered? Please clarify this fact? Previously UPSC had optional subject for both prelims and mains examination. But from 2011 onwards, they removed optionals from preliminary exam, but till now mains exam has optionals. In preliminary exam, optional subject is replaced with CSAT pattern, where candidates decision making and problem solving skills are tested. But there is a speculation that UPSC may change the mains pattern also, ie it may remove optional subjects from mains. But it will not be CSAT pattern, it may be a new pattern to be designed by UPSC. But it a speculation only, till now there is no official information from UPSC regarding mains pattern to be introduced. There is strong talk going on in the coaching institutes and media that very soon UPSC may introduce new mains pattern.

Friend, actually Prelim & Main Exam are the Part of UPSC Civil Service Examination(CSE). So UPSC Civil Service Exam has two Stages... 1. Prelim Exam 2. Main Exam >Prelim Exam exam is also known as CSAT(Civil Service Aptitude Test). >If you apply for UPSC CSE exam then you will firstly Face CSAT Exam. >You will be eligible for Mains Exam only after passing Prelim Exam i.e. CSAT. >Subjects in Prelim Exam is same(Common) for every one appeared in Prelim Exam. >In Main Exam, you have few papers in which you can choose subjects according to Qualification. PATTERN Of PRELIM EXAM or CSAT PATTERN of MAIN(WRITTEN) EXAMINATION LIST of Optional Subjects:- ``If you want to know more about UPSC Civil Service Examination then visit official website: http://upsc.gov.in

Re: Is It right that the UPSC prelims and Mains both will have CSAT pattern, means no any Optional Subject will be Considered? Please clarify this fact? Dear friend, Wherever from you have got this information,it holds no truth in it. Although the prelims of the Civil Service exams conducted by the UPsC do not offer any options and its compulsOry for all the candidates to attend the two papers,, there is an option to choose among a list of elective subjects in the MAINS exams and attend exam papers based on the two of their best prepared subjects.. So you needn't worry as u'll be allowed to elect subjects. Good luck.
