If you want to take the Economics subject in the UPSC mains then it is the good subject for you. But you have good command in this subject, International Relations and Economics. If you have good command in this subjects then you can write the upsc examination with your own view. The SYLLABUS is as follows::

    1. Ricardian, Marshallian and Walrasain approaches to price determination. Types of markets and its price determinations. Criteria of Welfare Improvement. All and Alternate theories of Distribution.
    2. Functions of Money Measurement and its price level changes. Money and real balance, High-powered money and the Quantity theory of money.
    3. Full employment and Says' Law-underemployment equilibrium-Keynes' Theory of employment and income.
    4. The modern system-Banks, non-bank financial intermediaries. Discount House and Central Banks. Structure of Money and financial markets and control.
    5. Old and New theories of International Trade. Determine Trade as the engine of growth.

These are the good and important topics in Economics. Mainly if you want to know more about the important topics then you have to see your University Graduation level syllabus. UPSC covers fully syllabus of all UGC recognized Universities. Best of luck.
